Poison Ivy?

It has all the characteristics but I'm still in denial, I never had a problem before in 7 years.

I found this in different areas of the yard.

Thanks. Here's more from another area.

Thanks. So that brings me to my next question: Is it possible that I now have this problem because of a large mulch delivery we received? We used to do bags from HD but this is the first year we ordered by the yard. Maybe it's just a coincidence.

Love these! I'm training my boys on "leaves of three, let it be"

Also pointed out to our hiking companions yesterday to be careful where their dog goes. They can get the oils on their fur...and bring it back to youLOL

That guide is interesting, but the butterfly part…I thought only humans had problems with PI?

I thought...who tracks which plants butterflies are landing on? That's a lot of observation.

FYI, my dog walker has reported spotting poison ivy ALL OVER the Wyoming neighborhood, specifically the stretch between Ridgewood and Wyoming, from Baker to Mountain. For some reason, there's been a huge uptake this year (maybe due to the winter we had?).

@debpod

If it's in Maplewood, report it in the automated Maplewood tracker system:
http://www.twp.maplewood.nj.us/RequestTracker.aspx

For private property, report it under:
Health Department -->>"Environmental issue".

For township property, report it under:
Public Works -->> "Public property maintenance, repair or cleaning."

You will need to include an address, and can write in a description to help them find the area with PI. I have found the town to be responsive so far. (You get email updates to let you know the progress on your report).

Help your doggie not bring any home to you!

How does it get there: birds.

I have my own rule

"If its leafy and green and remotely looks anything like poison ivy , hit it with roundup"

@sprout Thank you!!! I will report it. My poor walker is highly allergic and worried about my dog bringing it home to me. I'll def send this to her as well so she can report as she comes across it.

@debpod

To enter it into the Maplewood tracker system, you need to make an account on the Maplewood township site first. (I'm not sure if you need to be a resident of Maplewood to register for an account).

@sprout
Hmm, the link you shared allowed me to submit the request. Let me check my email for a confirmation. Thanks again

When you click on the link, you should see a box in the upper right of the tracker form that says:
"Logged in as: _____ "

It's possible you already had an account and were already signed in?

Hm, i'm terrible with identifying this poison ivy and until seeing posts here I was completely oblivious to its existence... So is any of this stuff poison ivy? it was growing near my stair railing and I liked it so I tied it to the handrail... maybe not the best idea..

Yes, PI. Altho, looks like you possibly have 2 diff vines there.

Um, yup, and yikes. I'm hoping you find you are not allergic at this point! Get some TECHNU scrub from the drugstore and take a shower using it just in case.

After you remove it all from the handrail and lawn, douse your handrail with the TECHNU or a very strong detergent (the foaming Dawn in a pump seems to remove oils well). Or your friends may get some mystery itchy rashes, and not be able to come visit you anymore.

You probably have the oils all over whatever you touched after tying the PI... You may want to douse all the handles/faucets, and surfaces you commonly touch house in strong detergent, using rubber gloves and papertowels.

Good luck.

we're also just getting it. Last year, now lots popping up all over.

I noticed, on that path around the reservoir, which is pretty nice, there are HUGE vines of p.i. and lots near and on the ground between the lake and the path. on the East side. I'd understand if they wanted to use this to deter folks from going in or up to the water, but it's really kind of a mean way to go about --as this thread proves--not everyone knows what it looks like. There are no signs. I'm quite surprised, given all the clearing, paving and planting, etc, that the county has done, that they have not removed some of the larger furry vines from the trees, let alone the little sprouts.

There are seeds? where?

Edited:

Oh, never mind, just saw that "berries of white...fright" thing.

This is what I get for feeding the birds, I guess.

There was a ton of this stuff growing near the railing... I got most of it out, but most wouldn't come out with the root, it just ripped off and a lot of it I could not get because other things are growing over it so I'll have to work more on this since it is in a place that I pass through every day. Also, I found out that I am indeed allergic to it. For a long time it was hanging over the stairs (before I tied it to the railing) and it would brush against my leg every time and I noticed that part has been quite itchy and red. I just connected the two today.. Thanks for helping me identify it, otherwise I would have kept it as decoration on the railing oh oh

Long sleeves!!!! Gah!

Yah I probably should have been a bit more careful... have little bumps on my arm forming right where the leaf is pointing in the picture. I definitely brushed against it quite a bit while ripping them out.. better than walking into it daily and wondering why my leg is itching like crazy.. Live and learn i guess

Live and learn, I guess...

I have been following these very interesting posts about Poison Ivy particularly because I have never been exposed and I would like to be able to identify it if I see it. We only had stinging nettles growing up and that was a minor discomfort so never a big concern. Now that I have a 2.5 yr old running around the yard, and reading about how bad the poison ivy is this year, I keep wondering if every plant which I know I did not plant could be poison ivy. I have done a web search for pictures of poison ivy, but I keep getting pictures of women dressed in leafs. Anyhow, any idea if this plant is of any concern? I have been neglecting my flower beds in the backyard and these are all over, some behaving as vines. Wondering what they are and if I have to take any extra precautions, other than wear my gardening gloves, to pull them out.

I don't see any 'leaves-of-three' in those pics.
