Pediatric Blood Work... Where? archived

Are there any local places where we can have ctrzson's blood drawn for a health screen? Preferably on a Saturday? LabCorp in Millburn doesn't have Sat hours it seems.

Are you sure they're not open Saturdays? We brought our son there on a Saturday (though it was a year ago). There's also a Labcorp in Union.

There are LabCorp and Quest locations all over, in Union, Livingston, WO near St. Barnabas, etc. -- check their websites, and you can book an appointment online and specify a pediatric draw. There was a recent thread about this that's worth checking out, too, if your kid is afraid of needles -- had some good suggestions about which locations nearby do the best with kids. We're trying out MedLabs in WO this week based on that thread.

A little more effort, bur worth it....Goryeb Children's hospital in Morristown....They are very very professional.. experienced and will get the job done. We tried local Labcorp...the staff was unable to do it...the young lady was clueless when dealing with a child....very traumatic... for him at 3 1/2...

We go to the Quest Lab in Livingston (not West Orange), it's behind St. Barnanbas on Northfield BLVD. There are 2 on Northfield, it's the one next to the Exxon (it lists that in the directions). We always books the first Saturday Pediatric Draw appointment & we do book online. We've been there many, many times and they've always been good and fast.

My kids have had good experiences at the quest in Livingston.

We like the lab at the St. Barnabase ACC, out near the Livingston Mall, which we have been using ever since we had a bad experience with a tiny baby blood draw at a different location. They have been consistently good with kiddie blood draws (including our little guy who had draws every 3 months for his first few years of life).

dd #1 has to get blood drawn 2x a year, Quest in Livingston has been her favorite (she still hates it though).

They use Quest labs, so if your insurance says you have to use LabCorp you can't use them.

However, IF your insurance allows you to use Quest then they are excellent. I used them exclusively until my insurance changed which lab they used. I've only used them for myself though, so I can't comment on how well they work with pediatric patients.

Thanks, all. We were trying to book LabCorp in Millburn online, thus the no Saturdays comment, but will look into Quest in Livingston for starters. Thanks again.

Do you mean the LabCorp on Milburn Avenue in Maplewood? I have never been able to book Sat appointments there, but I just show up with a book to read and wait to get it done.

I think they mean the one in Millburn on Willow St. It isn't open Saturdays. I stopped going to the one on Millburn Ave years ago. I've had more than one phlebotomist who was having a bad day take it out on my veins, and the wait at that one was always insane.

Yes, the one on Willow. Haven't heard great things about the one on Millburn Ave.

There's a blood work department at St. Barnabas Amulatory Care, across from the Livingston mall. My kids have had blood tests there.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has any current opinions on bloodwork for children. We've actually had really good luck at the Labcorp on Willow St, but we've only had to do it twice, and I think it might have been an anomaly. I tried to schedule an appointment online and it looks like they don't list themselves for pediatrics at all anymore, so I'm scared that the one child-friendly tech is gone.

Thoughts on where we should go?

I can't find any information or how to book an appointment on their web site. What am I missing?

We've taken our boys to the Labcorp on Millburn Avenue and they were great with them (at the time they were 2 years old). I've seen both positive and negative feedback, but we had a really good experience. They sat on our laps and we read to them while the blood was drawn…they actually seemed to have fun there and were not at all traumatized.

I had a horrific experience at Labcorp on Millburn avenue. My daughter was 13 months at the time and they were so rough with her. The person was rude and rough. I left with my daughter and would never go back there. If you use Gruenwald and Commandatore, they are hiring someone to do the lab work in their office.

Oh, missed this thread. The Labcorp on Milburn is open on Saturday, but it's walk-in, not reservation. I try to get there early. It's a comfortable place to wait. Service varies depending on who you get. I had a nightmare with my kid at their previous location.

Labcorp in Maplewood has Saturday morning hours

My daughter needs to have some blood work done. She is 18 months old and SO squirmy! I can't imagine how this is going to work!

Has anyone been to the LabCorp that's right across the street from St. Barnabas (on Old Short Hills Road)?

We used the labcorp office at 22 old short hills rd (it's not right across from the hospital but closer to northfield ave).
They were actually quite good with my son who was around the same age as your daughter at the time. They had one man there who did the pediatric blood draws and he really seemed to know kids.
That being said, if your husband can also go with you , I found it worked best with both of us there with my son.

Also, if you have a choice, I always preferred quest labs on northfield. I think their phlebotomists are much better but my insurance won't cover them any longer.

I usually take my kids to St. Barnabas, they are really great with my kids.

I used to use them, then I found St Barnabas outpatient center across from the Livingston Mall. I was very happy until my insurance changed and they are no longer covered. I can now only go to LabCorp. Thankfully I have had nothing but good experiences at the Millburn site.

I recommend the Millburn Ave site in Maplewood to people I don't like.
