Pandemic Christmas

So, what are people doing for Christmas?

My son and I normally travel to my brother in Ohio, where he or a relative throws a dinner for about twenty people.

This year, nope.

We'll be holding a zoom dinner, the two of us, and the three of him (son and girlfriend)

I'll be trying my hand at Beef Wellington for the first time (individual servings, not a whole loin). I'm nervous.

I just got out of a brief stay at the hospital after a frightening asthma attack Tuesday night. (we think, still not even sure what it was). Feeling much, much better now.

St. Barn's is locked down - no visitors.

The good thing was that most of the diagnostic tests came out negative, so I know a lot of my parts are working ok.  Just a little dicey in the lungs, so I'm on lots of antibiotics.

Mostly though, this atheist is glad he's home for Christmas. grin

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.  For me, this day (tonight into tomorrow) is no different from any other day. Staying home, reading, watching some TV, etc.

Glad you're home for Christmas, db!!  Negative is good.

We will be three for turkey (spouse, son, me), hopefully with video of second son (and maybe possible daughter-in-law-to-be?).  Most years he shows up for Xmas or new year's or his Jan. birthday, but not this year.  We may drive to Philly in January to see him, if things settle down some.

My idea of normal is still my sister's house with 20-25 for dinner, plus people in and out all day, but it's time to get over that.

Out of the hospital!! It may seem like a low bar for Merry, but this year we'll take it, right?

Ordering Thai food.  Will watch movie later.

A little earlier, we drove up and down some of the the blocks off of Wyoming looking for Christmas lighting displays.  There seems to be less of it this year and what's there is more subdued.

DB, a variant of thunderstorm asthma? Truly frightening, nothing seems to work until hospital.

Glad you’re OK now.

Keep safe & well, everyone - you’re all precious!  wink

 Yes great movie

But not timballo

actually:

Etymology

The name comes from the French word for kettledrum (timbale).[1] Varieties of Timballo differ from region to region, and it is sometimes known as a bomba, tortino, sartu (a Neapolitan interpretation) or pasticcio (which is used more commonly to refer to a similar dish baked in a pastry crust).[1] It is also known as timpano[3] and Timbale (food). It is similar to a casserole and is sometimes referred to in English as a pie or savory cake.[1]

Mangia!

Ended up watching "Easy A," a teen comedy loosely inspired by the Scarlett Letter.  We enjoyed.  Emma Stone's breakthrough movie I think.  Stanley Tucci, of Big Night (very good movie), plays Stone's father.

Easy A is a good movie. Clever dialog. Tucci is great in a smallish part.

I'm watching Alistair Sims in A Christmas Carol...

Definitely regional

Timballo is made with crepes- not pasta

But yes- similar

as long as we're talking Tucci and Italian, he's going to host a culinary series called Searching for Italy on CNN. Jan or Feb of '21 I think. Should be good.

We had Filet Mignon - and the weather cooperated so I could even grill outside! Had it with Spaetzle and red cabbage.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

Daughter made a really good boeuf bourguignon.  We played "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." And we did.  So grateful for everything.

Happy New Year to all!

My individual Beef Wellingtons came out great. Nice and rare and didn't burn the pastry.

That looks really good, what’s the side?

Your basic green bean casserole (without a canned soup though. yuck.)
