Once again: Do you know who accepts book donations?

Far too many to clog the local "Little Libraries" - any & all suggestions welcome!!

TIA

There's a big bin behind SO Public Library.

If it's stuffed full, the guy's number is on it.

Full disclosure ... he's a reseller, so don't expect your books to end up given freely to needy waifs and urchins.

When I was downsizing our house, I donated many books to the Livingston Library.  I don't know if they are collecting them now, but I dropped off boxes two or three times a week for a few months.  You might want to call and see if they are accepting donations and if not, when they may be starting up again.

But there are 2 big upsides to bringing books to the Big Green Box:

1)  It's run by a legitimate company -- Better World Books -- not an individual reseller.  They re-sell what they can online.  I've bought from them (with no problems & very good prices) AND a cut goes to the library.  Much easier for the staff as a way to get $ for books than doing book sales!!  It's been a solid source of income for the library over the last few years.

2)  What they DON'T sell gets RE-CYCLED.  It doesn't go into a LANDFILL.

It's often overfilled, but if you call the number they'll empty it in a day or 2.  Keep the books in your car & stop back.  Much easier than multiple trips to Livingston or Millburn librairies.

There are also Big Green Boxes in Montclair (in pkg lot BEHIND library) and in Florham Park.  May be more I don't know about.

It's GOOD for the library and the planet to use them.

There used to be someone on here who ran a book charity...its been a while since I have seen that thread though.

Essexbookpantry@gmail.com

Distributes children's books at local food pantries.

Maplewood Library usually takes book donations a couple times a year for their book sales.  Not sure what the plans are for 2021.

The Book Man is great!  I called and told him the bin was full - he came to my house that day (or the next?) and picked up about 10-12 grocery bags full of books.  ANY topic welcomed.

Did you call the number ON the box?  Then he should have been connected to Better World Books, & that's a good thing.  They've always been very responsive when I've called for clean-outs.  Didn't know they made hosecalls.  Well done!

Thanks juniemoon and snowmom. He came to our house once as well when the bin was full.

I didn't mean to sound disparaging, so apologies if I did. I'm glad someone like him is doing what he's doing. Books are wonderful but I can attest that a surplus can become burdensome. I have piles of books that are doing nothing but gathering dust, so I'll be availing myself of the service again soon.
