Official New York Red Bulls Thread

It's time someone starts something Red Bulls related here, no time like the build up to the first New York Derby which is happening Sunday.  I didn't really start officially looking forward to this until this week, and the Red Bulls and local media have done a good job with the build up.  It's great that the Red Bulls are playing well (although on they need to improve over the last few games) and NYCFC is pretty much off the rails at this point.

There was a good article on the Times' website interviewing a few people (including Claudio Reyna and Sacha Kljestan) on what it's like to play in a 'derby' match.

Any thoughts going into this one?

Greybeard is Red.

It's the season's only New York Derby that will be played on an outdoor soccer field.  Watching NYCFC squeezed in by the pitching mound at Yankee Stadium brings to mind Steve Zungul, Branko Segota, and the New York Arrows at the Nassau Coliseum.

Actually they play at RBA twice this year (May and Aug) and once in the Bronx (June).  I saw a Chelsea/PSG match there a while back and it was pretty horrible.  Giants Stadium was probably better than Yankee Stadium (assuming a well-attended match, of course).  It appears their fans haven't fully realized that they have one of the worst stadium situations in the league, maybe Sunday will help.

Wow.  That was quite a match last night.  Every one should be like that.  NYCFC is just a total mess, even a man down they couldn't really get their act together.  The Red Bulls were unlucky to not score a few more (and the wrong offside call on Richards didn't help).

All in all, a great night!

Went to the game last night with the family and three other families on our block. What a great day and an even greater game. I love that we can take our kids to a fun sporting event without taking out a second mortgage.

I've been a season ticket holder since 2009 and I'm consistently amazed that the stadium isn't full like that more often.  There's not a bad seat in the house and great seats are pretty reasonable.  It's also a great building, I'm a bit biased, but I'd say it's the best soccer stadium on the continent (admittedly Portland's is great and I haven't been to KC's stadium.)

That was one of the funnest games I've been to at RBA. (Nothing quite tops the night we won the Supporters' Shield though!)

Big away goal at DC yesterday. Red Bulls come back home on Sunday with a one goal lead. Everyone think they're going to pull it off? After the past two years and the second Supporter's Shield trophy I'm feeling strangely confident about this.

And they won the series 2-0 on aggregate. 180 minutes against DC without allowing a goal and only allowing 2 shots on goal.

Looking forward to seeing them take on Columbus to exact revenge for the 2008 MLS Cup loss!

First Red Bull game was yesterday took the whole family it was excellent.

Yet another reason to support NYRB is that their Sporting Director Ali Curtis is a Maplewood resident. He came in last year and made some unpopular decisions but helped the team to have hugely successful season.

Another local angle. Midfielder Sacha Kljestan spent his college years at Seton Hall before heading to Europe and eventually the Red Bulls.

Eastern Conference Final first leg is in Columbus Sunday at 5PM. Watch it on ESPN!

Love the thread oh oh I generally root for the local team but I must support New England Revolution....my nephew Diego Fagundez plays for them. They are done for the season so now I will root for NY Redbulls cheese

Corey oh oh

Add the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award to the list of this year's accomplishments! Congratulations Luis!

We have tix to the finals (?) game on Nov 29. The tickets say time is TBD. Anyone know if there's an update on the time of the game? We have a lot of folks going and would like to coordinate a tailgate.

Thanks.

Time time is still TBD and probably ultimately up to ESPN. There are two time slots for the games on the 29th which are 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM Eastern. The earlier one is on ESPN and the later on FS1.

It's probably more likely to be the 5:00 PM slot as this is the Eastern Conference final, but the Western game that day will be in Dallas which is only a one hour difference, so if there's some compelling reason for ESPN to want to show Dallas/Portland instead then it would likely be switched.

Since this is a two-game aggregate series I wouldn't expect to know until the first game of both series is played on Sunday as the 'halftime' scores will make a difference as to which game ESPN wants.

Should they make it past this the next game will definitely be at 4 PM on the sixth. We'll host it regardless of if the opponent is Dallas or Portland.

Did anyone watch last night's conf finals game? We were there. Incredible! Heartbreaking! Exhilarating! To win the game but lose the conference championship in the last seconds of overtime?!!? And to think my husband wanted to leave the stadium at 87 min avoid traffic.

Inches away from extra time. Sigh!

Still a successful season. There are a lot of teams out there that would have been happy to get that far. And Columbus definitely played a better game over the course of those two matches.

I'll be back in March!
