norwegian air to europe

looking into flying norwegian air into & out of rome this may-anyone fly them out of newark to europe that can share your experience?  we usually fly united-their flights into & out of rome are outrageously priced (dont know why).  united into milan & out of rome is  very reasonable cost-but messes with my itinerary.

thanks

Don't know about flying Norwegian Air out of Newark but one of my neighbors flew Norwegian Air out of Newburgh (Stewart) and was very pleased both by price and service.

echo the Stewart experience- it's about an hour or so, but a straight shot up the Thruway.

Also- we were going to Uber it up there, but daily parking a fraction of EWR- $8/day I believe.

We flew R/T to Dublin last August- couldn't have been eaiser or less stessful. And much cheaper.

Curious about Norwegian as well. They have cheap tickets, but every time I've looked into one and actually priced it out (with checking a bag, or a carry-on, assigned seat, etc), the cost becomes almost as much as that of a "real" airline.

yes this is the case.  but the fare to & from rome with the upgraded fare with bags, food & seat selection was still less than $1000 each  and united wants an absurd amount.

I just flew them to Spain over the Christmas holidays.  It's a "low-budget" airline with no extras but the planes are new Dreamliners and the experience was great.  I've flown them before and would again, no hesitation.  If you want to pre-book a seat or check luggage, you're looking at $45 for each (each way).  I took carry on luggage only and it was absolutely fine.  Great on-board entertainment and you can order snacks/beverages from the touchscreen.

Emirates runs regular Rome and Milan specials from JFK for under $500 round trip.  And Emirates is a dream of an airline.

Emirates is running their JFK to Milan deal for $424...you have to book before Jan 8th.  https://www.emirates.com/us/english/

Yes Norwegian can nickle and dime you with the extras, but you can't beat their base airfare.  I flew nonstop R/T to Copenhagen for $304 and am flying non-stop R/T to Barcelona for $320 and non-stop R/T to Stockholm for $312.  Planes are nice new Dreamliners with plenty of legroom and great seat-back entertainment.

Do they belong to IATA?  This would be a deal breaker for me.

Flew Norwegian to Martinique last January and to Paris in October.  We liked them better than United.  Did not feel like a discount airline except you pay for food and drink on the plane and for luggage.  Given the price of our tickets ( round trip to Martinique for 2 people with one large suitcase for $330 TOTAL and round trip for two to Paris with a large suitcase for $650 TOTAL )  we didnt mind at all.  Look forward to flying with them again.

Another vote for Emirates. EWR to Athens nonstop $425 RT.

For great cheap tickets to international destinations, a subscription to Scott's Cheap Flights emails is well worth it. He suggests using momondo.com, which has the potential to turn into an expensive hobby.

A thousand times ^this.

i could not find an emirates flight to rome and the milan special fare flight dates don't apply to my timetable.  thanks for the replies- looks like i will go ahead and book the norwegian flight- looking forward to the dreamliner!

flights are now booked!

If you haven't yet booked the ticket, It's less expensive if you do so through the Norwegian language portal, or sometimes even through the UK portal. The Norwegian is of course in-language, but it's easy enough to figure out. Good luck!

YES to this!  When I book, I always select the portal of the country where I'm traveling to - its always cheaper than using the USA portal.  Use Google Translate to figure out your booking.
