If I ever lost my phone (knock wood), I'd have to replace it AND my monthly.

I use the app exclusively since I work part-time in the city. If I bought a monthly, I'm not sure I see the convenience or benefit to using it.
I do carry a paper ticket with me in an emergency, in case I can't get service and I get a nasty conductor who won't be patient.

Thanks, all, for the input. Very helpful. Sounds like it makes sense to use the app but keep a spare emergency paper ticket just in case.
Wow, really!? By a conductor? I think I'd have some rather choice words for them if I got screamed at for using an app that they, themselves, endorse.annemarie said:

Yes. I got screamed at last month. It was unpleasant.
That's what I'm sayin'.unicorn33 said:
Isn't this app put out by NJ Transit?? If so, where do they get off screaming at you? Outrageous.

And my solution is to carry a Maplewood to South Orange ticket that I can then "step up" to Manhattan. If I lose it, I'm only out like $1.25 or whatever.
