Need help w/running Excel on Mac, running "frequency" for statistics, or running Winks stats program on Mac

Can someone walk me through doing frequency (in 'formulas') on excel (2011, version 14.0)? I've gotten pretty far but keep getting hung up at one point. I'm in an on-line research class and the professor and the other students only know PC and, frustratingly, the class is not set up to accommodate Mac users in any way. I've only ever used a Mac. We are expected to run a statistics program called WINKS which really only runs on PC. There are supposedly ways to get WINKS to run on a Mac, but according to on-line forums I've checked, they don't work on all macs, and users only have occasional success when attempting this. It hasn't worked for me, despite trying numerous times, so I'm trying to do the assignment in Excel. Anybody who can spare 10 or 15 minutes to discuss would be much appreciated. It might also be doable just e-mailing back and forth. I could attach the spreadsheet I'm working on so you could see where I'm hung up.

You can run Windows on a Mac. Then you can run WINKS.

I think there's some unspoken agreement between Microsoft and Apple to keep this barrier the way it is.

I don't have windows, Dave. What's the least costly and most straight forward way for me to get/run windows on a mac?

You can download virtualbox for free. It is software that lets you create a virtual machine (VM). In that VM, you can load Windows. You'll need a copy of Windows, which you might be able to acquire illicitly, though I didn't say that.

Maybe it would be better to borrow a Windows PC.

I know that google spreadsheets doesn't have all the features that Excel has, but have you tried it?
