Murders at a Synagogue

I'm sorry for trying to compare what for you may seem like apples and oranges; out here (non-USA), it's all relatively-easy gun access and related violence.

Why is this mass shooting, at a student bar, any different to the synagogue shooting? In this case there was security personnel,  shot before the attacker entered the bar to continue his attack. Beyond commenting on his praise for law enforcement, there's not much other comment from the President on the recent flurry of multiple-victim gun murders - I really do think in most other nations you'd see a prominent political leader speaking out and vowing to get to the bottom of whys and how to effect social change so that brandishing a loaded weapon isn't seen as the answer to an angry or distressed or disempowered crisis.
