Movie Reviews? Amy? Trainwreck? Mr Holmes... Others?

I saw Amy last week. Highly recommend. It was a little too long but overall really well done. I didn't realize what a gifted artist she was in addition to being an amazing singer.

Trainwreck and Mr. Holmes are on my list for the next couple weeks. Seeing Irrational Man tomorrow. Anyone have any reviews they would like to share?

We saw Mr. Holmes on Friday in Maplewood. We really liked it. It's a simply-told story, with a great performance by Ian McKellan. If you're a fan of the stories, you'll like the "revisionist" take as the elderly Holmes reminisces about how Watson fabricated details.

I haven't seen a movie in ages, but the trailer for Trainwreck had me laughing out loud. It looks like it could be a great time

I rarely see movies in the theater, but we saw Inside Out recently and loved it. I have yet to hear of anyone who didn't like it - all ages!

Thanks nohero.... Confirms it for me. Tarheels... Totally agree about the trailer for Trainwreck. I don't get cable so haven't seen much of Amy Schumer but she seems really funny. I love Bill Hader from SNL. sac... Inside Out is one of the few animated flicks I really have wanted to see. Adding that to the list.

Trainwreck was a hoot, but given what's in theaters right now, I would hands down choose Inside Out. Truly an all-time great movie. Possibly the best Pixar movie ever; definitely top three. Very moving but also hilarious.

Saw Love & Mercy in Montclair this past weekend, as it just departed from Maplewood. As I know most of the Beach Boys songbook, it was fascinating, and at times difficult, to watch Brian Wilson's descent into madness, control by an evil therapist, and partial redemption triggered through the help of a beautiful girlfriend. All of this interspersed with Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's music. All in all, it was very well done and I'm very glad I saw it.

Trainwreck is a great summer fun movie.

My husband loves Amy Schumer so Trainwreck is on our list.

Which theaters do people recommend? We don't go often so I'm not familiar with most of them. I'm looking for a theater that has comfortable chairs and where you don't hear the action film on the next screen through the thin wall.

I no longer go to movies without reserved seating, so it's down to Essex Green and AMC Mountainside for me

Jasmo -- I really enjoyed Love and Mercy as well.

EBennett: Essex Green, Mountainside, and East Hanover are probably the largest and comfiest. Maplewood is close and has a really decent mix of mainstream and "art" films. South Orange is also close and has the added benefit of $6 tickets on Tuesday nights. Maplewood has an $8 dollar deal on Tuesday which is pretty good as they are a small independent theater. Montclair is a nice theater and usually has the latest indy/arty ($6 Tuesdays).

We saw Trainwreck on Saturday night. Very funny. Saw it at the South Orange theater at 7:15 in a small theater upstairs. No issues with noise from adjoining theaters, which were showing kids movies. Had to sit in the second row because we got there on-time, rather than early. If I had it to do again, I'd arrive earlier to get a better seat. That said, we were comfortable enough.

Thumbs up for Trainwreck! I saw it at SOPAC at noon on Sunday. Comfortable seats and less than 1/3rd of them were occupied. I love going to the first show of the day given the matinee prices and the abundance of empty seats.

Just don't sit all the way to the right there, because there's no center isle.

I loved Mr Holmes! Ian McKellen is always wonderful. So is Laura Linney. Thank you Hollywood for another female character who is not skinny and sexy. It is funny the way the "actual" Mr Holmes disdains the fictional details that Watson attributes to him.
