MOL updates - please report issues here.

We're still working on the issue when quoting extremely longs posts.

I have seen some forums use a more info link - but the problem with this is that you don't see the proper context of the last few posts as seen here:

So the alternate solution that I've tasked my guys is to show a little of the beginning and end.  It's not the easiest thing to code.  grin

I think it's more a PEBKAC issue.

True - but it is hard to get around on mobile.  And for those who wonder what PEBKAC is:

I have to remember that acronym when I'm talking to our gurus at work! cheese

Thank you all, for teaching me something new, and thank you for persisting in trying to work on this solution. (I'm one who finds the manual cropping very difficult to get right)

Are the green fields something you could set a character limit on? Make it generous enough that only the serial quoters and excerpters would notice and be forced to decide what was essential to their comment?

I have quoted people on my phone and deleted the sections I don't think are essential to making my point. I don't this it's that hard.

I've also chosen to just respond without quoting.

Same here. But if it was really so easy for people to pay attention to things like this, I wouldn't have a career.

This is one of the only boards I've been a member of which adds everything in a post when you quote it. Darn near every board I've belonged to will quote only the text in the post you are responding to, leaving out anything they have quoted. Isn't there some way to quote ONLY the text from the post you're responding to?

Example: On other boards, if I quote DaveSchmidt's post: https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/mol-updates-please-report-issues-here?page=next&limit=60#discussion-replies-3439362 DaveSchmidt's response to Jamie's post will appear above my cursor without Jamie's prior post also being quoted. Not only would that make it easier for us to read on phones, etc., but also to edit quotes so I can respond point by point if I want to. Right now if I want to respond to one point made on a post with 5 quotes on it, I could spend 4 minutes carefully deleting everything I don't need, or just not bother, and I'm pretty sure the purpose of these forums is to engage.

Ridski - can you point me to another board that does what you're saying.  Don't you lose some context of previous posts?

I guess the big question is: which input method is each poster using? We're all using different devices, we all have different levels of expertise, and we're all different ages so different kinds of 'tech attention' when we're posting.

Some will one or two fingers directly on a screen, some might use a tool like a stylus for better accuracy, some will have a mouse or voice control. And that all affects how effectively we can individually edit those long quotes to then make the points we're desperate to make (especially in a popular thread).

So we probably still need a little flexibility built into the new style (so we can select a couple of points to quote), yet still still manage to be succinct.

Sez the clumsy two-fingered typist. cheese

You don't, primarily because the whole board is the conversation. In order to get to that post, you have to read (or intentionally skip over) all the posts before it, so the context is on the board. Some boards also allow you multi-quote, so you can quote two or three posts at a time, but when you do that, each quote is a separate box for you to respond to.

Here's one I used to post to all the time before I moved here (and all the cool people switched to Facebook, leaving a hellish nightmare of right-wingery) which exhibits the behavior I'm talking about.

Thanks - that was helpful!

Also - @Morganna - I sent you a pm - I would like to figure out the "like" issue.  And if anyone else is having this problem - let me know.  The more people we know who have the issue - the easier it is to solve.

Jamie, I was one of the first poster who was having so much trouble in posts where the green field swallows up everything.(Highly technical response!)

I am no longer seeing this and I just figured out you solved the problem.

One thing I started to do on my own was to drop down more from a green field before responding. Whatever, it works for me.

I tested it from time to time and it started working in the past few weeks so I've been "liking" like crazy in the spirit of adding little gold stars to  posts that I "like." I have no idea what changed unless you have been tinkering in the background. I wonder if others had the problem as I have always noticed that there are few likes. So either people do not know that it is functioning or we have a cantankerous difficult to please group who simply does not "like" anything.

I keep forgetting about the stars LOL

We have a bug with starting a new discussion at the moment - we're working on it.

When I submit a search on a keyword, I get the message:

"Sorry! internal error occurred."

H'm. Suddenly Safari keeps telling me this is not a secure site, and my privacy can't be guaranteed.

(Could only get in using the old ipad2, with the very old iOS, so I could override the warning)

yeah - hopefully people will override it - we're working on a solution at the moment - hope to have a fix shortly.

I'm getting the same effect with Chrome.

(And yes, I'm also overriding it to get in, thanks Jamie.)

I'm getting a warning as well, Internet Explorer, but I fly in the face of danger.

How do you override such a problem?

Jamie and team, I have no idea when you wove your magic, but I clicked on my saved URL on the newer iPad, and got straight on. Thank you! *big hug*

I tried that, didn’t work for me - my iPad is an ancient one year old! question

mtierney, yesterday I turned the iPad off, then after a couple of minutes turned it back on again. Closed off my MOL tabs completely beforehand.

When I reopened Safari this evening and got a fresh tab, then I used autofill to get to MOL.

I hope this helps.

Unrelated to yesterday’s issues...

Sometime in the last few months, the system stopped remembering my login.  Now every time I open MOL I have to log in again, as if I had “don’t remember me” checked, or read without thread memory.

Very annoying — any ideas?

I also got straight on today, with no 'Security" warnings.

Thank you @jamie, and the developers.

What device it this happening on?  Ipad - phone - desktop.  It could be happening if you are using a private or incognito browser window.
