middle school for my son

my son will be headed into middle school in september. he has an iep and receives a good amount throughout his day. he obviously would continue receiving help in middle school, we are just questioning whether or not the public middle school is a place he would thrive in (unlike our daughter who is doing well there). the winston school is one possibility, but we are thinking that may be too extreme (for lack of a better term). we have been wondering about st rose of lima, our lady of peace in new providence and st patrick's in chatham. -as their class sizes are smaller and we were thinking they might be a better fit in that regard (our son has difficulty focusing as well). does anyone have any feedback on any if these schools?  - or do you recommend another school we should possibly look into?

thank you for any feedback.

What exactly are your concerns with the middle schools: Student population size (800+ kids), class sizes, logistics - like changing classes and managing lockers, teacher support, organizational skills?  Would a 1:1 paraprofessional help with the focusing issues?  Have you asked your case manager for a tour of the middle schools?

Tomorrow night, the topic for the monthly SPED PTO meeting will be focusing on the secondary schools (middle and high schools).  Dr. Lauren Reisenauer and the new special services consultant Dr. Laura Morana will be in attendance, along with the School Liaisons for the middle and high schools.  Might be a good opportunity for you to hear more about how the secondary schools serve our special needs students.

Tuesday, 2/27 - 7:30pm at 525 Academy Street (in the BOE Meeting Room)
