Meltdowns

We might be witnessing the simultaneous rapid disassembly of the minds of both Trump and Giuliani.

Trump:   'Impeachment.  For that??'

Reading between the lines, I hear:   'I have done so much worse, and they didn't call me on any of that'.

If its a contest, my money's on Giuliani. I saw a clip of Laura Ingraham questioning Giuliani with an expression of disbelief on her face. At least I think that was what it was. Hard to say. When I look into her eyes, I don't see her soul.

Exhale everyone. ;-)

Gotta figure the lack of traffic is due to the circumstances.

Trump certainly can command a room,

For worse, or worse.

Oh dear. Nobel Peace Prize just announced, and (as you know) a little-known non-US head of State is the winner.   I’m expecting fairly major meltdowns via social media over the couple of days.   excaim

 Putin?

Unfortunately Joanne, the Nobel prizes usually don't get much coverage here unless an American wins.

Oh. I didn’t realise that.  (Lying in bed, reading news and MOL, really surprised by this snippet. I would have thought at least the Nobels were important news. )  would you like a fuller article, with some history?

It is similar to the Olympics. If an American doesn't win, it might as well not have happened!

Morning! cheese

Oh! (Surprised puzzled face) I thought there'd be more 'world' in World News. I guess you've just cleared up a lot of Unexplained Political Mysteries for me, for which I thank you. I'd previously put it down to us just using English differently.

Ok, so now you know - not only has T not got the Peace prize, it went to one of those African nations he describes so colourfully. Expect more vitriol and purges.

He's too busy attacking anyone and everyone who is questioning his behavior to worry about the Nobel, methinks. We're speculating whether he will throw his personal attorney to the dingoes to save his own skin. My money is on "yes he will".

Yes and no - he needs the vindication of the Nobel to deflect the other annoyances. This rejection deepens the humiliation of what's really happening, and he's going to lash out badly. In every direction.

The recipient knows how to govern, and how to mend old wounds. He's shown T up, in the worst possible light. Not good for a white supremacist.

America has no world news. It has about 15 24 hour news stations and they all repeat the same 5 stories, with few reporters on the ground, and a rotating crew of know-nothing pundits commenting on it. It’s news, Joanne, but not as we know it.

Ridski, isn't your brain crying out for nutrition? How do you cope?? I noticed the decrease in quality when I moved from Victoria to Queensland (i.e. from a wealth of news of sources and several owners down to basically three, all owned by the same outfit/family and pretty much publishing the same info in the same style)

I suppose the internet makes it a bit easier than 33years ago, but it's still time consuming.

I have various aggregation sources for world news. I realized very quickly how utterly awful American news programs were in comparison to what I grew up with when I watched an hour dedicated to a single story, followed by a segment called “Around The World in 90 Seconds” where they condensed everything happening everywhere into a minute and a half.

In the UK there was a 10 minute daily news show for kids called Newsround. I learned more about world current affairs from that show than I could ever possibly learn from any US television news channel or show. It’s pathetic.

PBS Newshour.  World news.  Try it.  It's the only news I can stomach.

I know about NewsHour, I think it's re-broadcast here and if you're attuned to news publishing you see clips crop up in other places.

Newsround sounds a bit like our BTN, Behind The News that rounds up a few major news stories then explains why they're important, so young people (or home schoolers, older people) aren't as isolated.

I'm just - gobsmacked. This explains so much, doesn't it?? I mean, not just the lack of trust in news sources, or facts, but also the complete skewing of critical thinking (because it's not used out of school).  Wow. No wonder there's such denial of basic common-sense science etc - people just don't know.  And it better explains the reaction to Assange, too.

I'm glad I'm sitting down! The 'little' things we take for granted, eh?  Thank you.
