SZA’s album Ctrl has been on heavy rotation this year. My favorite “new” artist. Hoping for a big, winning night for her!
her stylin stage wear had a varsity letter "M" on the front. For Maplewood? She is a real singer and performed like one. Sometimes persons up for the new artist award are pitchy and overwhemed by the artifice and hype and miking challenges I have noticed. Not our SZA. Go!
Best New Artist means “artist”. She sings her own songs that she’s written herself. That should have put her in the win column. Nonetheless she has a huge fan base and I’m sure she will continue to write and inspire.

Here's what the critic for WAPO said:
SZA (He "rated" her the 6th best performance of the evening.)
SZA sings the music of the edgy youth, a concept best captured by her outfit a cut-up cheerleader top. Broken Clocks was an unusual choice for the R&B artist to perform at the Grammys, given the immense pop
ularity of hits Love Galore and The Weekend, but she sang the heck out of it in front of a Matrixesque backdrop. This performance further convinced us that SZA was snubbed for Best New Artist."
