Loving Trevor Noah

I think he's doing a great job. Check out the Trump clip. V. funny:

Hadn't seen this particular show, but I caught it now online. I very much like Trevor Noah - he's sharp, satirical, has a wide scope of targets and I am enjoying his viewpoint on world affairs. I also think he's pretty funny, too. cheese

I wasn't sure if I was going to watch the show, but decided to give him a chance. So far so good -- and the bit last night about Trump being African-president-worthy was a winner -- Jon Stewart-esque at its best. (OK, I know not to compare him to Stewart, but Jon placed the bar very high as far as I'm concerned.)

The Trump bit what the best piece so far. But overall, I'm not loving Trevor - he has a ways to go. And with Colbert hitting politics - Bill Maher on Fridays - Oliver on Sundays - it might get harder and harder to retain the Daily Show audience.

To be fair, Jon Stewart took a while to evolve into the rock star he became. For some reason I'm feeling open minded about Trevor! grin

I suspect many weren't around for Stewart's early days, but I remember them being awkward after he took over for Craig. It was a while before the show really became the political force that it ended up being.

After being disappointed in the Nightly show and 'not quite feeling' the Late Show I was prepared to watch this a few times and then go on with my life, but I've thought that Trevor's been good. He's obviously still feeling his way around (and I'd say Colbert's improved a little as well since his first few shows) but I thought he's had a very strong start.

I'm not sure I ever watched The Daily Show on TV in the past and I still don't, but I've enjoyed several Trevor Noah clips I've seen on Facebook (which is where I got my nearly-daily dose of Jon Stewart these last few years.)

I watched the Daily Show religiously for the past 10 years or so and was very sad to see Jon Stewart leave. I tried watching Trevor Noah this week, but I think I'm giving up and will utilize my DVR and TV time for Jimmy Fallon instead. He's incredibly talented and funny.

I just don't see anything in Trevor Noah.

i haven't seen the daily show with trevor noah however i recently watched this documentary about noah and his start as a comedian. found it rather fascinating; his growing up in south africa in relative poverty, as a mixed race (or "colored" person, in south african parlance) and how that's shaped him. he seems like an thoughtful young man who's gotten where he is through a lot of hard work - wish him well. called "you laugh but it's true" it's on netflix.

Great article which captures why Trevor Noah just ain't cutting it.  I tuned out after just one week and glad to see I haven't missed a thing.

I still like the show.

I stopped watching The Daily Show.  He's just not a good interviewer, not as savvy about US politics, and I really hate it when a comedian starts laughing hysterically BEFORE he tells a  joke.  I've got nothing to watch now, since the friggin' Hallmark Channel has 24/7 Christmas programming until January!

How about the Late Show with Colbert?

Stopped watching that too (I can't stand Jon Batiste constantly mugging the camera).  And I don't think Stephen has yet decided who he wants to be on that show.  I'll have to live with my memories.   cheese

Watched the clip. Trevor Noah is OK. I haven't jumped completely on the wagon yet, but he's growing on me.

BUT...who is this artist, Christine and the Queens? They performed on his show. I caught the clips from the link above. WOW! She's amazing. I'm going to look into her now. Thanks for the intro.

Thread drift ... my spouse watches the Hallmark channel a lot (lucky me ... NOT!) and I dread that "Countdown to Christmas" every year.  (Which now starts the day after Halloween - ugh!)

Have you tried John Oliver's show on HBO?  It's really good but just once a week.

Considering the shoes he's had to fill (... to carry on after "the legend", as some might see it -- including me), I think Trevor is doing an admirable job.  I can already see him starting to grow this into "his" show, and creating his own personality with just the right amount of Jon Stewart impressions thrown in.

The correspondents seem to be having a tougher time than Noah getting a feel for the new lay of the land.  But they were always changing and growing themselves in "J.S.Time", too.

REALLY disappointed with how Larry Wilmore's show has evolved.  Was a relief to tune back into Colbert when he started up again.  Still miss the "old" Stephen, I admit.  But he's still getting guffaws out of me.

An example of just how tough a spot Trevor walked into is that he's got people like me watching, who just don't like the way he introduces the "Moment of Zen".  How are you supposed to satisfy people who are bothered by little things like that?

Yes!  Love John Oliver.  I think the Daily Show folk should have looked forward and made him heir apparent, rather than lose him to HBO.

John Oliver is brilliant. Love his show! HBO is the perfect place for him. Agreed, the Daily Show/Comedy Central made a huge blunder in losing him.

Trevor Noah is fine. Don't love him yet, but it's entertaining (at times). I don't watch his interviews at all.

I REALLY REALLY miss the old Colbert.  His new show just seems off, not exactly right, a watered down version.  Whenever he gives glimpses of his old self - with bits or laughing or whatever - I love it.  But when he's doing late night schtick.... i.e. the "just one more thing" last joke, or that stupid big hat, etc. - then I cringe and want to leave.  The show doesn't seem as smart. Sigh....

I think they're trying diff bits to see which ones work the best.  His delivery and jokes are pretty much the same as before.  He does like to hear himself speak, but i've noticed he's gotten better at letting the guests get a word in.

Speaking of The Word.  I miss that.
