Is there a local league for a high schooler here in SOMA? Not a competitive travel team but more of a fun game with some nice kids that like to play? We are new here...
I've always felt there was a need for this given all the young kids who play soccer and the relatively few who make the high school team or even want to make that kind of time commitment.
Historically (though I have no idea with COVID), the ICYSL that hosts the South Mountain program for 3rd-8th graders does have high school divisions for boys and girls. However, S.O. Rec is unwilling to join those leagues unless they're sure they have enough kids for a team. So there's no way to sign up unless someone a few months in advance goes to the Rec Dept., says they're willing to coach and that they have at least 13-14 kids willing to play (hopefully more as high school age attendance is much more erratic). It was a few years ago, but I did it in combination with a couple of other parent/coaches for a few years and think everyone had a good experience.
So it's definitely too late for this season, but if you'd like to think about spring soccer, it's not too early to get some names of other high school boys who might be interested in playing and reaching out to the S.O. Rec with the names of potential coaches.
Cougar SC usually has a high school team in the spring, but this is a travel team.
