It's a ton of fun, IMO, but very cheesy and rough around the edges. You can eat very well, but food is hit and miss. You have to be someone who appreciates a certain kind of extremely dated cornball charm. I go there often and never regret it, but Babbo it is not.
there's a Groupon for Libretti's going on now--worth a try!

I've had both nice date nights as well as family dinners at Libretti's. Never found the food to be lacking and the noise level has never been too loud to hold a conversation.
We just saw they are having karaoke night. does that affect the dining area?

Probably not - there's a large bar area that is separate from the dining area.
That said, I think the food at Libretti's is really mediocre. Only been there a couple of times, but didn't like the food very much. If you're just getting together with another couple, you have lots of options.
I think Libretti's would be good, actually. But only if you like old school Italian food. I went a group & thought it was a fun atmosphere.
It's certainly not fine dining, but Libretti's is a ton of fun and, in 12 years of eating there pretty regularly, I could count on one hand the times anyone in our party didn't enjoy their meal. It seems, at least in my memory, that each time that's happened it has been a lackluster pasta dish. Stick to the entrees and you'll be fine.
Karaoke takes place in the bar, which is completely removed from the dining area.
Do they still have that big unprotected cloakroom in front? My wife left a raincoat in there years ago, that was taken by someone else. The owner's nephew said too bad, he's not liable, when he heard the news. Not that he necessarily was, but rather hostile response. Never been back.
Go to Gregorios in Chatham. It's a lovely restaurant with great food and a lovely atmosphere where you can talk and hear your guests
We ended up staying super local and went to Boccone South in SO. Food was delicious! We sat in the upper seating area and had the place to ourselves. And we were able to hang out for several hours enjoying our meal - appys thru dessert Only downside, was a bit more than we had planned to spend but the food and the company made it worth the expense.
Some day we will get to Libretti's!
Thanks all for the helpful input.
We love Boccone. Silvio is great. We were just saying we wanted to invite friends to join us there.
Dinners are on the expensive side but it's a fun place to be. Last week Silvio treated us to the bread pudding ..amazing ..made using croissants! He makes the place
Lunches however are a true treasure ..$9 for a soup or salad and an entree to choose from , pastas, pizzas, chicken or fish . All generous portions ..nice late lunch ..with good wait staff ..

but boccone is byob, libretti's has a liquor license -right?
thanks brick, I thought so. I have not been to libretti's in years. ( but I always liked it)
but the byob at boccone offsets the full bar at libretti's , so dk50b you probably spent about the same.
oots
eat local !
I agree Libretti's can be hit or miss and you have to be in the mood for kitschy Italian - I usually order the Snapper Livornese and am never disappointed. We also like Georgio's for a nice meal out (BYOB). I've only been to Boccone once - the food was fine, albeit more than I wanted to spend.
I didnt enjoy Libretti's even though it was touted as great. Bad wine choices, meh food. Weeknight visit no crowd. Didn't see the "fun" that everyone talks about. Maybe Friday's and Saturdays?

At the time, several years ago, I thought what we ordered was fine but no better than Giorgios and now with Boccone in the mix, I'd sooner BYO and stay local.

Going out with another couple and we'd like a place with good food and ambiance but...we want to be able to hold a good conversation. we've heard good things about Librettis on the board so we are hoping you say it fits the bill.
Thanks!
