Jets Play-Off Hopes

Win, baby ... And let the chips fall where they may.

Kind of a drag to finish 11-5 and miss the playoffs.

vs Steelers it actually comes down to the 4th conference tiebreaker, "strength of victory", which Pittsburgh would win right now mainly because they beat the Cardinals.  If Steelers, Jets and KC all win out, Jets miss playoffs.

I can actually see the Broncos losing two games ... But better that the Jets win out.

that Steelers comeback hurt.

As a Pats fan hoping for a week 17 rest, that last Roethlisburger pick hurt. I hope he bought the entire D some pretzels or cheese curds or whatever they eat in Pittsburgh.

Pats just signed Steven Jackson.  Jets are in trouble now.

Stupid system where a team can go 7-9 and make the playoffs and another team is 11-5 and does not qualify.

Nice win today!

We control our destiny next week. Let's go to Buffalo and kick Rex's ass ...

Bizzarre coin toss. Happy with the result, but it seems odd that the Ref would ask, "Do you want to kick?"

The coin toss thing was memorably weird. As for the stupid system thing, the same complaint was made in baseball this year because of the dominance of the NL Central.  What it comes down to is do you want to have divisions with rivalries or have no divisions and just pick the top X records in each league/conference as the playoff teams.

As Pee-Wee might say, "they meant to do that":

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/patriots/2015/12/27/new-england-coin-flip-kick-bill-belichick/77949484/

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said after the game there was "no confusion" about the decision. Slater said he never second-guessed the coach but pressed him to make sure he understood the command correctly.
“No, I just asked him three or four times to make sure I’m not the guy who’s out there: ‘Yeah, we want to kick off.’ So I double checked three or four times," Slater said. "I think he was looking at me like if I was concussed. I kept asking him, but he said that’s what we want to do. He’s the best in the business and we trust him, so that’s what we did.”
New England could have clinched home-field advantage in the AFC with a win..
"I'm speechless," Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said after the game. "I don't understand why they did it but I'll take it."
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady stood by his coach after the game.
“Whatever coach decides, that’s what the team does," Brady said. "We, as players, we just have to play better. It’s not like it’s an easy decision. I think we all have confidence in whatever coach decides. We’ve got to go out there and do our job and do the best we can because he’s trying to do whatever he thinks to help us win. That’s what we’re trying to do.
"They just made some nice plays here in overtime. So that just ended up being the difference.”

Interesting ...

Enemkpali the MVP?

In a word ... Yes!

way to go today jets

trying to look like the Giants?

Sad affair.  Dropped passes, missed field goal, inability to touch a very mobile QB.  Alas, with the Wilkerson injury, they were definitely not a playoff team so whatever.

Good season. Disappointing loss. Lots to look forward to ...

Forward!

I'm happy for what he was able to pull off for the Jets but Fitzpatrick came down to earth today and I doubt he could put together a whole season, or even a stretch of a season,  next year that compares to this year.  He's not the future.  He's the latest in the long line of Jet flashes in the pan at QB.  The Jets have never had a great QB in their entire history and that statement includes Namath, whose achievements and numbers simply do not compare to the great QBs of NFL history.  Some way, they have to nail a great QB.

This is what they eat in Pittsburgh - Primanti Bros. famous sandwich:

Go Steelers!

I agree. Lotta players on your team I wish were on mine.

Three reasons though I thought karma was on the Jets' side yesterday: (1) the comeback OT win over the Giants - thought that was the spark to ignite the run, like the Victor Cruz game did for the Giants in '11; (2) beating the Pats in Week 16 when needed, putting destiny in their control; and (3) the success of the Mets this year. I'm a Giants-Mets guy, but I obviously know it's the Mets and Jets who generally go hand in hand. Thought the 2015 Mets were the good omen the Jets needed. Sorry it didn't work out - I was pulling for Gang Green to get in.

If you can't laugh ...

The 10-6 schedule is much more difficult than the 4-12. So don't make assumptions for next year. also this is not a young team on the rise. It is very much a veteran win now team.

Unless the coaching staff can develop more toughness to prevent all the losses in games that should be won they can easily go backwards next year.

Record has exactly a two game impact on your team's schedule the following year ...

From Wiki ... The NFL uses a strict scheduling algorithm to determine which teams play each other from year to year, based on the current division alignments and the final division standings from the previous season. The current formula has been in place since 2002, the last year that the NFL expanded its membership. Generally, each team plays the other three teams in its own division twice, all four teams from a single division in the AFC once, all four teams from a single division in the NFC once, and two additional intra-conference games based on the previous year final standings.

The out-of-division away schedule is pretty harsh.  Three games against playoff teams and two games on the west coast.

But, again, not based on Jets 2015 record ...

what they still need is a qb not a journeyman.....

Fitzpatrick set the record for TDs by a Jet QB this year.  I'll take that.  Frankly, if that loser caught that pass at the end of the Bills game, they'd have won.  No wonder he got cut by three teams this year.

With that supporting cast of Marshall and Decker... He should have..  His career record speaks for himself... He has only 10 4th quarter comebacks in his career and 3 of them came in December this is his only winning season ever.  His career high for wins in a season was 6.  Even geno and Sanchez have much better stats with mediocre receivers.  Shades of Josh Mcnown... Hope he improves but probably not likely.... He is inaccurate throws too many interceptions
