Is the pandemic forcing you to cancel restaurant and travel reservations?

Any bailout of the airlines should be tied to a Passenger's Bill of Rights.

LILMissLL had a trip to Mexico planned for this week. So far she was able to gt most of her money back and United offered a credit. Disappointing but not bad considering that her Company (liveNation) is really getting hit with their main work of concerts just shutting down..The has told everyone to WFH and so far , except for feeling like she's going crazy by sheltering in place in Hoboken) she's holding up well.

Business idea for Live Nation - maybe pass this on to your daughter. A lot of artists have had to cancel shows/tours and are taking a big financial hit. So they are putting on live shows from home and streaming them on Facebook Live or other platforms. The fans are watching from home and sending money to the artists via Venmo or PayPal. This is all very random and disorganized. It can be hard to find out what shows are out there and when/where. Maybe some national entity could take over the role of tracking and publicizing these events. Even better if they would skip the obscene service charges so most of the money would go to the artists.

I have a business trip to Louisville Apr-6-8 to cancel. And a music festival in Denton, TX at the end of April that I hope I can still attend. (Brave Combo AND Tower of Power. Two of my very favorite live bands. Woo hoo!)

 LOVE Brave Combo!

I have tickets for the Old Settler's music festival in central Texas, originally scheduled for mid-April. The county just shut it down a few days ago. They're going to reschedule it for this fall. Tickets are not refundable, although they can be used for the new dates. Tickets for SXSW were also not refundable. I've read that a pandemic is not one of the covered causes of event cancellation that would trigger a refund, unlike war, natural disaster, etc. I'm curious if some of that money goes to the artists. Between the general admission cost and the fee for RV rental and an RV parking place, I'm into this event for some pretty serious money. Hope I can make the new dates.

It is official. The Denton Arts & Jazz Fest, in Denton, Texas, has been cancelled. I'm so bummed. I go to this festival most years and I have a lot of friends in the Dallas area that are all Brave Combo fans ("Bucketheads"). I was expecting this news but still, when it came, it hurt.

By the way, Brave Combo is the MOST FUN band ever. Quirky. Nuclear Polka and so much more. They don't come up north much these days but there is no better band to see Live. And I've seen 'em all.

Great video! What a hoot that David Byrne hired them to play his wedding. Very sorry that they cancelled the festival. Here's hoping they can reschedule for the fall.

Are you a fan of the Texas Tornados? Kind of the Brave Combo of Tejano music.

Yes, and I'm very into the Texas Tornados' roots, Doug Sahm and that whole Austin scene, Augie Myers, Flaco, etc. I love Texas music which has a very wide base from country to Latin to Polka to German and more.

Ahem ... that's more of a San Antonio scene. Austin takes credit for everything. We're used to it.  question

You'll appreciate this. A lot of SXSW shows that were cancelled are now doing livestreams. Good one by Bloodshot Records. Someone just called it Couch by Couchwest.

Was sorry to hear they re closing the entire Reservation.  Seems like the trails are a low risk high benefit location for mental and physical health.

Yes, sorry, my mistake. I knew it was San Antonio.  Just a brief brain cramp on my part.

The Millburn mayor announced it today.  A drag.  I started taking my dog on the trails the last couple of days because they closed the dog park.

Essex County closed the parks 5 days ago.

I'm not so sure the Reservation is closed.  I see the earlier general Essex County announcement that "parks" are closed but (a) I was on the trails the last couple of days as were other people and (b) I can find no distinct announcement that the Reservation is closed or is about to be.  Maybe they just mean active recreation parks.  I will go back this afternoon and let you know.

https://www.essexcountyparks.org/

**To help stop the spread of COVID-19, we are closing ALL PARKS & RESERVATIONS - including playgrounds, dog parks, athletic fields and Riker Hill Art Park until further notice.**

our trip scheduled to depart exactly in two months is cancelled ( my doing now that united offered the no fee cancel thru 5/31/20)  credit available for a future flight.  I just dont see europe being an option in 2 months.  hopefully in november!

We did the good citizen thing and went to the Watchung Reservation, which is officially and actually open.  We then swung by the SMR just to see what was going on.  Super crowded.  Never saw the Glen Ave. parking lot so crowded, with significant overflow to the Millburn library lot (the library is closed so it's not library traffic).

I'm sure lots of people have no idea about Joe D.'s official pronouncement.  They could put some signs up, send a Sheriff car around etc.  But hey, it's Essex County.

They're plenty efficient at shutting it down during the annual deer cull. Maybe this is a don't ask/don't tell shutdown where they're not going to enforce it too vigorously.

So, its still not being taken seriously. We may pay a horrible price.

In other places its taken extreme seriously. As happened to this woman who violating quarantine. She went outside and even though she ran alone without a mask the consequences were severe:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/20/asia/beijing-coronavirus-woman-fired-intl-hnk/index.html

Hong Kong (CNN)A Chinese Australian woman has been fired from her job in Beijing and ordered by authorities to leave China after provoking outrage in the country for breaking coronavirus quarantine rules to go for a jog.

I don't know.  Just got back from Watchung Res.   It's 1900 acres, SMR is 2100 acres.  Both with lots of trails. There is a lot of room for people to keep a good distance from each other and they seem to be doing it.  For fleeting moments, you pass people walking in the opposite direction and even then, I'm careful to keep my distance.

The dogs need to get out.  When I walk mine on the street, I pass other people with dogs.  Not sure that's any safer.

ESSEX COUNTY PARKS ARE CLOSED!  It's not that f'n difficult to understand. Closed, the opposite of open.

Stay out of the f'n parks.  People are selfish idiots.

There was no signage off of S.O. Avenue, saying s.m. res is closed.

Furthermore, hiking is permitted in the governor's directive.

To be clear, the Watching Res. is in Union County and it's not (yet) closed.

I do not understand closing the reservation at this point.  Central Park is still open, and there's far more space in the reservation.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, so I will refrain from making more smart-*** comments.

From Executive Order 107.  I don't see where it says hiking in closed county parks is allowed.

All New Jersey residents shall remain home or at their
place of residence unless they are 1) obtaining goods or services
from essential retail businesses, as described in Paragraph 6; 2)
obtaining takeout food or beverages from restaurants, other dining
establishments, or food courts, pursuant to Paragraph 8; 3) seeking
medical attention, essential social services, or assistance from
law enforcement or emergency services; 4) visiting family or other
individuals with whom the resident has a close personal
relationship, such as those for whom the individual is a caretaker
or romantic partner; 5) reporting to, or performing, their job; 6)
walking, running, operating a wheelchair, or engaging in outdoor
activities with immediate family members, caretakers, household
members, or romantic partners while following best social
distancing practices with other individuals, including staying six
feet apart; 7) leaving the home for an educational, religious, or
political reason; 8) leaving because of a reasonable fear for his
or her health or safety; or 9) leaving at the direction of law
enforcement or other government agency.

Note that state parks are open for hiking but the offices and rest rooms are closed.

Its simple. If Joe wants the parks closed, put barriers at the entrances. They have electric signs that they use for deer cull. They put county cops out to prevent people from going into the res. during deer culling.

So people who don't get The Ledger, drive to the res. to walk around a bit. If they see no barriers to entrance, they go in. I do not fault them.

I am not joking but you can respond with a smartass comment. No harm done.  blank stare

There aren't any signs on schools, but everyone knows they're closed.

People need to start using some common sense.

 This is from today -

SO someone looks this up, goes to the res based on this and sees no signage or barriers, wouldn’t  ‘common sense’ imply that it’s open???

Unless it's the official website for Essex County Parks or the South Mountain Reservation, I wouldn't use that as my source.

Hey, let's all meet at St. James Gate because a website says it's open!
