Is Everyone Happy with Their AI-Generated Car Insurance?

Feb 22, 2026 at 5:01pm

I admit, I pay far too much for car insurance. But I’ve had the same insurance “guy” for over 30 years. In that time, I’ve had to file a claim maybe 4 times, at most. I was relieved to work with a real person who knew me, was ready to help, and most importantly, handled everything efficiently.

On a fixed income, saving money is now essential, but I fear giving up the personal service I’ve enjoyed in the past.

All these car insurance deals save you money by “cutting out the middle person”. I don’t use my insurance often, but I’m certainly glad I don’t have to deal with a stream of robots, usernames, and passwords to get quality service when I do.

I assume you’re all bombarded with these offers at every turn, as I am. But I’m concerned that taking humans out of the equation will lead to more of the lousy service I deal with in so many aspects of daily life these days.

I’m eager to know if anyone has filed a claim through one of the AI services and been pleased with the service and outcome. If you’ve switched, saved money, and needed to use insurance, please share your experience. TIA.

what's an AI insurance service?

I don't know if it's AI, but my son has been happy for probably 10 years or more with Geico, including when his car was totalled and they had to negotiate the value.

1, @Juniemoon,

Step one:  ask for what your rate would be IF you make a change.  Get rates for at least 3 other companies.

Amica; 100% live human beans.  844-206-8114.  Been with 'em 30+ years. A few accidents, prompt service.

I change insurance companies about every 2 to 3 years. Rates go up due to banking laws, uninsured motorists, and so on and so forth. A new company usually brings me back to where I started with the old company. Once I stayed with a company almost 10 years out of convenience until I discussed what I was paying with a coworker. Loyalty is not rewarded it seems.

Same strategy here, but more like every five years.  Insurance companies definitely don't reward loyalty.

Certainly not. They raise customer rates to cover the lower cost of entry for prospects. Ready for a rant?

How many of us have been told our $200 a month+ rate is “the best I could find anywhere”? You must have seen all the Geico, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, etc. ads in the media promising full coverage for a fraction of what I’m paying. That’s what they SAY

Went through the process with a couple of them … got huge numbers of spam calls asking again for the same info I’d been hesitant to provide initially (name, e-mail, birth date, PHONE #, zip code). One quote was only a few dollars less! None was significantly less. Not worth hearing back from 3-4 providers who want the same personal info again.

I think it's connected to the many spam calls I now get every hour from dozens of different numbers – all hang-ups, leaving no messages. They fill up my voicemail, and the people I need to hear back from can’t leave messages.

I’m on the “Do Not Call” list, but these weasels find a way around that. Consumer Cellular says there is nothing to be done about spam – it's just out of control. Said to block those numbers, which I do now, but I’m concerned about accidentally blocking new contacts I haven’t saved. And many of these calls come from numbers that show up as already blocked!

I think the AI element is that all the ad responses get delivered to multiple company call centers at once, and they ALL call you back to get what they need to do quotes. The call center reps, not agents, chase you down. Efficient for them – NOT for me!

I’ve thrown in the towel. It’s making me crazy. I hate paying so much more than other people. But the possibility of poor service would not be worth it. Opinions on the best company to go with would be invaluable.

We, like Formerly JERSEY Jack, have been with Amica for30+ years.  This includes $100K fire, several car accidents.   Our lawyer said they were being very good in our case.  100% human, English speaking, helpful.  Fast resolution.  Good company.  I’ve also heard very good things about NJ Manufacturers.  That would be my first call if we leave Amica(not likely).

I've been with NJM for 25+ years.  They have been great. Multiple accidents that did not result in premium increases. However, they have jacked our rates significantly the past two years, in the range of 25-30% per year.  I'm ready to shop around, but my guess is most other insurance companies have done the same.

I've been very pleased with AAA insurance (both my car and home). I have an agent, and he's very responsive, and their general customer service has been fine too. I don't live in NJ any more, where I am they are one of the more affordable options.

(if you get their credit card, there's a nice rebate when you use it to pay for the policy)

I worked for the N.J. Workmens Comp Bureau for several years. About 100 companies offered W.C. insurance in N.J.  They were required to submit copies of their policies (declarations) and reports of accidents they were covering.

All of the submissions - thousands of them were checked for accuracy in matching their reserves with the projected cost to cover the claim. We would never find errors in reports coming from N.J. Manufacturers.

You would be surprised. As another poster mentioned, part of the increase to longtime policy holders rates is so they can offer newcomers competitive pricing. I know I was surprised. Cross your Ts and dot your I’s as one company tried to give me a really unbelievable price until I checked really good to find they would have underinsured me if I went with their policy at the quoted rate.

THIS is what haunts me, and why I continue to pay such a high premium while so many I know are paying a fraction of my rate.   For this, I get harassed by dozens (and dozens!) of spam callers -- leaving a message just to hang up.  Better safe than sorry, I tell myself.  But should I get robbed to stay protected, or harassed just for trying to improve my lot?  Something has to give, or I'll run out of money.  There ought to be a law!

Other than my high premiums, State Farm has always come through for me.

Have you tried asking for recommendations for a good auto insurance broker who can make these calls for you and get back to you with available rates?  Might be easier for you.

Home owners and auto insurance rate increases - A major factor is the increased cost of parts to repair damaged lumber. This has to be passed on to the insurance company and then, onto you. For some of that, you can blame "that most beautiful word in the dictionary, tariffs."

Regarding homeowners' insurance, look to fires and storms which have increased in frequency and severity.

Something to think about.  Thanks, Joan.  What would be easiest for me is not to have to deal with all these spam callers, or at least have a way to tell them apart from "real" calls, even when they only leave an anonymous message and "run".   tongue wink

Anybody want to post what they're paying and for what coverage?

I would, but I doubt it would be informative. I don’t see too many compact beaters like ours around here. blank stare

Mine also wouldn't be very informative, unless other people have two freshly licensed teens/young adults who push the price of coverage into the stratosphere.

There are too many variables to compare policies.  Number and age of drivers, accident history, car age and value, car safety rating, location of cars, garage vs no garage.  But the best advice here that I've seen is to either use a trustworthy independent agent who can check multiple companies for you or to shop your own policy every two to three years.

I still don't know what ai-generated insurance is.

@bub…. Lead the way.

Looking at my policy, its confusing.  I'm calling Allstate on Monday to get a handle on it and will report back on $ when I'm sure I understand it.

Look at your auto insurance's "Declarations" page. This is what I used for my comparison shopping.
