Iris Pictures Please! My Favorite time of Year!

One of our first!  Please just keep the rains gentle!

The Secret Garden @ 377

Only buds right now but I'll post the minute they open.

Edited to announce that I went outside after I posted this and to my surprise it had bloomed.

It reminded me of a poem by Ann Ridler  Part 1 of A Matter of Live and Death which begins:

I did not see the iris move,

I did not feel the unfurling of my love.

As I can't find it online, I'll scan in a page from my book Modern Love Poems, which I have treasured since high school.

Mine haven't bloomed yet, but here some from past years.

The orange and gold are stunning @sac. Do you know the name of that iris?

Forgot to mention that my iris in the picture was from one of the rhizomes that @marylago shared.

The dark purple ones should open soon

FYI - the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair are a bit late to bloom this year - so you haven't missed anything yet!  It's been too cold and rainy for them to come out as their usual time.

I drove by today, and I would say around 2% of the larger plants were blooming.   I was told that the peak for these is 1-2 weeks away.

I don't have a picture of it, but take a ride down Maplewood avenue towards town....the second house in (close to town) has the most beautiful irises I have ever seen! They are so beautiful, our family calls it the "iris house'

I bought several new rhizomes last year and this is the first to open. I love this one.

I think it is just a color variation of the bearded irises.  We didn't know we would have any that color until they popped up one year.  This year they were all purple, though, and not so numerous.  (I think we are overdue to thin them out.)

One from the other day.

Breck's bulbs from Holland has a collection of irises that they refer to as zebra striped. Some are absolutely wild. I'm waiting for one called Cheetah Cheese to come up if it ever does. I planted 11 different plants and only 8  came up. I called and they are refunding my money for the 3 once I identify which ones failed. I thought that was pretty nice since Metropolitan does not allow returns on certain plants after 3 months. Quite a few shrubs did not make it through this winter. So worth ordering some of Breck's rhizomes online.

I love irises, just wish they would stay in bloom longer!
