Increased air traffic

Is it my imagination, or has the number of low-flying planes over Maplewood increased?  I sometimes feel like I live at the airport.

Definitely not your imagination.  I’ve also noticed it. We are under a departure flight path right now and the planes are flying low.  This has happened before.

It also seems to me that there are more helicopters flying over Maplewood and South Orange.

Helicopter flyover tonight... and a lot of fog.

Way, way more helicopters over this area lately. Some are so low they rattle the glass in my windows. I’ve wondered if maybe there’s a reason more helicopters are coming and going from Morristown Airport.

I don’t know for sure how long it will last.  Usually shifts after about 10 days. Here’s a link to the Port Authority website that displays flights and their paths.  You can enter a noise complaint via the website.  The odor bothers me as much as the noise.

I always wondered why it seemed that planes coming in for a landing at Newark seemed to be following Rt. 78.  This would put them on the west to east shorter runway which I did not think was used much unless there were high winds.    I have landed on this same runway east to west, but only in high winds.

Going back a few years, the FAA determined that due to airplane noise, they would spread out the landing and takeoff paths so as to spread out the noise in a fairer manner.  I am not sure if this is still the rule.  But most planes are quieter now.   As far as helicopters... what president landed at Morristown a lot?

I was in Gillette once when his “air entourage” was making its way to the golf course. I didn’t realize just how huge those helicopters are in person. Or how loud.

I'm not sure if you are referring to commercial or private jets, but Maplewood is often in the approach path for Teterboro.

When Trump flew into Morristown, the Marine helicopters would fly over Maplewood on their way to meet him and then fly over on the way back after dropping him off.  They are insanely loud.

My guess is the helicopters were based at Newark Airport while he was in NJ.

Newark never even occurred to me. I had assumed Morristown. Newark makes more sense. Those helicopters looked as big as houses to me. Incredible.
