ID.Me Issue

May 22, 2025 at 10:35am

I am trying to file a document online using a desktop computer with no photo taking capability. Program requires establishing an ID.Me account which I have done.  ID.Me requires uploading an image of an official ID such as driver license, passport, or passport card.  While FAQs state the option of completing this requirement by making a video call, no such option is offered in practice and there is no way to reach a live human being.

Is there a way to upload a digital image from a stand alone camera?  If so, how would I do this?  Option is to snail-mail the document but electronic filing has the advantage of providing confirmation of receipt which snail-mail will not.  Instructions welcome.  TIA.

Can you take a picture with a smart phone and email it to the computer? (non-techie here, don't even have a smart phone, but i think that's what we did in a similar situation, using someone else's phone)

Got it in email. Photo too blurry.  Will keep trying.

Is there someone living nearby who you know and trust, who could scan the required documents and email them to you?

I am having too much fun savoring the angst of trying to learn to do it myself.  That written, I am seriously considering asking family members who live close by for assistance.  The 7 year old could likely do this.

ID.Me completed.  Quite a learning experience.
