Good for you, mtierney. I hope you have many more years exerting your control on MOL.

And, yeah, I've been talking to my kids about, if I get sick with it, if I die from it, etc. They really don't like it when I talk about such things but tough titties, that's what I say.

Odious? I honestly do not understand the outrage. MOL is a long-standing community - what, 20 years? - and a member of our community has died. It doesn't seem unreasonable to ask who it was.

Scully and I simply asked very politely if that information could be shared. A simple "No, the family prefers to keep that information private" would have been fine. Too bad that's not how it played out.

Again, the obvious answer is to not mention someone's MOL affiliation if you don't want to reveal their identity.

In the event of my demise, my IRL name can be posted.

At that time, what is found by googling my name (by potential employers, FBI, etc.) should be moot.

If I die, someone else will have to do the weather reports

yes, this is why I don't use my real name here.  So the stuff I post here doesn't come up in a google search.  I haven't taken any pains to hide my IRL identity.  At times my avatar has been a photo of myself.  And there's enough PII that I post that you don't need to be Sherlock Homes to guess my identity.

and no, my current avatar is not me.

 So you say.

My current avatar is me, for once.

I might try to find a picture of when I was a long haired 170lb goth boy and really confuse everyone.

Most people, including friends I've known for 20 years, don't know I have a different first name that I use at work.
