I haven't been paying attention. Giants in first place!

Quite the turnaround from the 0 - 2 start. Mets. Jets. Giants. All with something to be excited about. Yankees? Not so much.

I love this time of year. The Great Venn Diagram of Sports is great around now.

(The Giants don't look like a team in first place but I'll take it however I can get it.)

(The Mets continue to astound. So much fun to watch when they're winning. But why do the games start so late? Even games at Citifield go 'til almost midnight.)

(Jets? Who are the Jets? Never heard of them.)

pro football is certainly showing itself this season to be a war of attrition...its an unfortunate trend that will continue I think.

yes. Nice that the Giants are in first place right now. But I'm not expecting it to last, since they are likely not too far away from signing guys off the street to play WR and LB.

Awesome game for the Giants Had to leave the bar after the opening drive, though.

How much did we win by?

Can anyone update me on who is in first place now?

(Sorry, obnoxious Philadelphia fan in hostile territory.)

Okay, if you're going to throw out such an obvious setup line you deserve the obvious punchline.

Anybody else want to handle it? Or should I?

Yeah, that just sucked. Sad part is, the Iggles played pretty horribly themselves and STILL the Giants lost by three touchdowns.

It IS the NFC East, after all... not exactly a showcase of powerhouse football. Hell, even the Cowboys are somehow relevant in that division. cheese

Countdown to Santa Claus reference: 5 ... 4 ... 3 ...

So long, Frank Olivo. Your memory lives on.....

(Although that's not the way I saw it coming. question , mfpark.)

Last night's game nearly made me physically ill, but as I'm not an Eagle QB in the Super Bowl, I was able to tough it out. Also, I moved more quickly in the fourth quarter.

From the time I watched the Joe Pisarcik fumble as a kid, the Giants have endured bizarre misfortune and self-imposed misery against the Eagles. There were the DeSean Jackson and Westbrook punt returns, the 91-yard punt by Randall Cunningham, the mauling when the Giants were 10-0 highlighted by Keith Byars trucking Pepper Johnson, and the joy of blocking a game-winning Philly field goal only to see DL Clyde Simmons, in to block for the FG, run the ball in for a TD.

I tell you, without those four Super Bowl victories it would be darn near intolerable.

The spirit of Quaker humility prevents me from making any further responses.

Fortunately, there just are not a lot of diehard Giants fans in and around Maplewood. It feels like more of a baseball area. Plus many Jets fans (at least in my circles). On my street, there are 3 Eagles families and only 2 Giants fans with more Jets fans, plus some Steelers, Redskins etc. This area is not a football crazed area (as evidenced by the number of posts on this or any football thread not dedicated to poking fun at Ligeti and the Cowboys.

True. I tried going to the Gate once to watch a Giants game and was the only one watching football, at 1pm, in the Gate. Even O'Reilly's can be quiet unless the Bills are playing, as there seems to be a good Buffalo contingent there every week.

Simultaneously proud and sad to say I was at the Pisarcik fumble, Simmons recovery, Cunningham punt, and DeSean return games, plus plenty more (the 2008 playoff game comes to mind). However, I'm REALLY proud to say that I went to school with Seth Joyner from 3rd through 9th grade.

I guess MOL is one measuring stick, but I wouldn't assume it to be entirely indicative of local fandom. For one thing, while this does seem to be a big baseball area with a huge Yankee fan presence, there's generally very little Yankee talk on MOL. Also, I actively partake in the Mets thread, and yet I for one am unquestionably a Giant fan and football lover first and foremost. It just doesn't come through on MOL.

The reason is that Sbenois Industries' roving hit squad wipes out Yankee fans whenever they post on MOL. I think Dave is on their payroll and Sbenois has incriminating photos of Jamie.

Yankees are a horrible organization. Nearly ruined baseball during a 20 year period of steroids and drunken spending.

As much as I hate the Giants, the Mara family is a respectable owner of a pro franchise.

Back in first. Next couple of games look promising.

I am glad the G'ints won, but it was not a very encouraging win.

They barely beat a weak Dallas team--even more weakened without Romo and Bryant--mainly because Matt Cassel kept throwing to blue shirts, and Harris had the KO return of his lifetime (abetted by abysmal tackling by Dallas).

They gave up 152 rushing yards to Darren McFadden, and were it not for the three picks Cassel would have outplayed Manning. Beckham continues to show that he is a petulant brat (did you catch his meltdown when he could not pull in another fingertip catch?). They could barely move the ball on third downs, converting less than a third.

Yes, NO and TB are both struggling this year as well, but I have to think their fans are looking forward to playing the Giants as much as Giants fans are looking forward to playing them.

And then comes New England.

The season ends: Jets, Dolphins, Panthers, Vikings, Eagles. Ouch.

La la la la la can't hear you!

Don't hate on Cassel - the guys in the blue shirts were the only ones open.

Amazing that we won a game in which the Dallas O-Line completely dominated us. I guess karma owed us one.

I was no-kidding on the field this afternoon. It was... epic.

Did you dance the salsa in the end zone?

It was a work thing... so no. But I was really thrilled to be on the actual field where the Cowboys humiliated themselves so thoroughly. I did walk over to one of the sidelines where Greg Hardy pushed his coach (probably mistook him for a woman) but it was a fleeting moment.
