hotel in copenhagen

have a few days to spend in copenhagen end of next august....is 3 days enough?  cruise leaves on aug 30...what day do you think i should fly in?  i have no idea about copenhagen whatsoever...any hotel recs?  private tour guides?  any help is appreciated...thanks

Copenhagen is awesome.  We stayed in a hotel near the Tivioli Gardens, but i can't remember the name but it was convenient to many things.  Definitely do a canal tour.  ALso fun to do is rent bikes for the day.  You could visit Christiania - the old military camp that now is an open air hash market with little hippy shops etc.  I think doing a search for top things won't really steer you wrong.  Oh, definitely seek out the best danish (pastry) shops and get smorgasbord for lunch.  I think 3 days is plenty. It was 6-7 years ago I was there but we did a long weekend and enjoyed it.  Have fun grin

My friend who lives in Copenhagen recently took my mother for lunch and she had a lovely time. The 'palace' isn't quite Cinderella-like but the views are great. Also I prefer Tubor (even though they and Carlsberg are owned by the same conglomerate now) but this is a great tour as well:

Also Art Week should correspond with the time you are over there so keep an eye out for when they announce shows/activities. Usually during that time they also have outstanding local/small artists with outdoor stalls set up in various spots around the city as well.

We stayed at this hotel in 2013 an really enjoyed it.  It's in a somewhat residential neighborhood, but a close enough walk to everything - Tivoli, restaurants, train station etc

A very cool city.  Definitely rent a bike and ride around.  Tivoli is definitely a must see - beautiful grounds and a fun old-time amusement park.

Three days should be just about right.  Most of the places you will want to see are within walking or biking distance, which makes this the perfect way to relax:

3-4 days should be good.  Some of the major attractions are a bit outside of Copenhagen though:

Frederiksborg Castle in Hilleroed (at the end of the 'S' train line to the north).  Figure about 45 min ride from center of Copenhagen.

The viking ship museum in Roskilde (25 min west of copenhagen, no 'S' train, but it is on a main train line).  Roskilde cathedral (abt 1000 yrs old), which is resting place for most of the royal family, is also highly recommended.

Major hotels are $300+ per nite, but if you are OK with something a little more provincial, you should be able to find it for abt $200 per nite.

The mentioned hotel near Tivoli gardens is probably the former SAS hotel (I believe it is a Radisson now).

Many years ago, we stayed at the Danhostel family suite.  A very affordable choice and it was nicely designed too.  The family suites are on a higher floor and have nice views.  And it's right next to Tivoli.
