It’s that most auspicious day once again! Whether you like thin crust, regular crust or Sicilian style pie, today we celebrate pizza!
What’s your favorite? I’m not looking to start an argument (although people get passionate about their pizza) but I’d love to hear what you love about your preferred purveyor of pizza.
We are a Roman Gourmet family, a preference going back to my wife’s childhood growing up here. I like their crust a lot, but I also think they make a great sauce. We sometimes order from Village Trattoria. I feel like their crust tends to be a little thinner.
What is your favorite way to reheat leftover pizza? If I have time, I heat a cast iron skillet, put the slice in to slightly crisp the bottom for a couple of minutes then put the whole thing in the oven for a couple of minutes more.
Our air fryer works well too on the “Reheat” setting.
If you tell me you use the microwave I’ll have no choice but to dismiss you as a soggy-crust loving philistine.
Tratt buffalo chicken used to be my go-to SOMA slice but I swear they've been doing something different since the pandemic and it's not as good as it used to be. A bit sparser and tastes slightly different.
I now rate Roman Gourmet higher than Tratt, however RG doesn't do buff chik well IMO. Plain, sausage, pepperoni, honey mustard chik all very good.
We usually go with Roman Gourmet, because my daughter is picky and that's her favorite. My favorite is Arturo's, though I usually end up having their entrees if we order from there.

A pizza is just bread with stuff on top. I mean, if you can eat it with buffalo chicken (yuck) then you have no right to complain about any other topping.

I meant Dominos, not the bacon/pineapple. I don't really care who has what on their pizza. My nephew used to order those fat sandwich pies, with chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks, etc. Not my bag, but I didn't have to eat it. He's a vegetarian, close to vegan, now...

I used to get a meat stuffed slice from Roman Gourmet. Slices of pepperoni, sausage and meatball sandwiched between two layers of crust with cheese and sauce. Oh man is that good.

A calzone is just bread with meat, cheese and sauce stuffed into it.
Serious question, actually: What made what you had, which apparently wasn’t a calzone, different? Noncontiguous crust, maybe?
I don't understand the hate for ham/pineapple pizza. The sweet/savory combination is very tasty.
The Hawaiian pizza was pretty standard fare at Pizza Hut in the UK. I never found anything wrong with it.
The Tratt has changed, not sure if it's the sauce or cheese, but it's noticeable. It's still my go-to for basic pizza, though. Roman Gourmet always gave me heartburn and their mushrooms looked like they were out of a can. Haven't been to Arturo's since Pickett's opened up. I love the Alsatian and Pepper and Pepper from there.

well, think of two pizza crusts on top of each other with the sauce and cheese and toppings between them. Then bake it, and slice it like you would a pizza. I couldn’t tell you if this meets the definition of a calzone or not, but I can tell you that it can be rather delicious. They also roll up the crust a little bit around the edges so you end up with a traditional pizza crust to hold onto your slice. I can’t remember if they also put a little bit of cheese and more pepperoni on top of the pie.
I think I'll have to try a slice of that if they sell it in slices. That sounds like a pie would be a big commitment. My friend worked at Pizza Hut when we were in college. If you asked him what time it was he would point to the clock on the wall that said,"It's always time for pizza!"
