Happy 75th birthday, Bugs Bunny

and the character who coined one of my favorite (and often used) quotes...

I grew up with Bugs Bunny and all the Warner Bros. cartoon characters -- often my father would join me and would laugh louder than I would (considering the cartoons were adult-oriented and not really for kids). That was how I first learned opera, classic music and even some history. Fast forward to the mid-70s when I went to work for Warner Bros. and would have extensive telephone conversations with Chuck Jones who, at the time, wanted to resurrect the cartoon division (my boss wouldn't talk to him so I did). I could have (and did) listen to him for hours, telling me what it was like to be on the lot and how the characters were developed and refined (what a gift!) When I eventually went to work at the Studio, I visited Termite Terrace (which is the row of buildings where the cartoon department was once located) which at that time was vacant. I have two hand-drawn pictures (Bugs and Yosemite Sam) from Chuck which I treasure and proudly display. My regular vocabulary contains many Bugs/Daffy/Yosemite, etc. "isms" which most people today don't recognize (and they look at me like I just landed from Mars). But they continue to be great entertainment and are classics that I still love watching.

bugs bunnies were originally made for adults not kids. that's kind of what made them so great.

Warner is bringing Bugs back in a series called Wabbit that will premiere on Boomerang late this year.

Brilliant, subversive, hilarious. If I could, I'd give Bugs one of those vacuum kisses he used to give Elmer Fudd.

I'd give anything to know the percentage of Bugs' cartoons where he (or another character) appears in drag. I bet it's pretty high.
