Grub eradication - Nematodes?

We have had a bad grub problem for the past 2 years. The grass won't grow very well since grubs eat the roots, and birds dig up the lawn to get at the grubs. I've tried various forms of pesticides (granular, spray), with no success. Since we have a little one and spend a considerable amount of time in the yard, I am hesitant to use more aggressive pesticides.

I read about Nematodes (the helpful ones) and they seem (at least from what I have read) to be effective if introduced early in the spring.

So the questions are: Has anyone ever used Nematodes and what (if any) were the results? What other options are available?

Though I still find the occasional grub, the lawn is no longer totally infested.
This is a good thing. The japanese beetles that the grubs grow into were absolutely feasting on certain plants in my garden.
Easier to control the grubs than the beetles.
