Greenway Path!

That is awesome. One might hope that it will also allow the SOPD to crack down on all of the midnight fireworks nuts that have been using the Chyzowych Field Neutral Zone to scare the hell out of the neighbors.

Wow. I'm impressed.

Awesome!
Congrats to all who worked on the application and special shout out to Janine Bauer who has been pushing on this for years.

That's really incredible.

I am so looking forward to it!

That's fantastic, well done to everyone involved!

How wonderful! What's the timeline on this project?

Janine Bauer, thank you for years of perserverence on the Greenway.

And if you look closely a the article - look at the letter. South Orange not only received $1MM we also are sharing $850,000 with Newark and Maplewood for Irvington Ave Streetscapes.

Amazing!

Question: where will the path end in Maplewood? Near the HS parking lot? I can't quite figure it out.

I was going to say the same thing.

So great, I'm really excited about this!! Though I'm having trouble envisioning exactly where it will go.

So much for that disgruntled ex-employee who keeps claiming that SO can not get grants without her.

Found this:

It ends at the soccer field off Parker.

We often walk to SO this way from our house. Hard to navigate sometimes, but really lovely. I can't wait!

Will a new path from the soccer field to Parker be created? Will it connect to the HS parking lot off Parker?

Sounds great! I would love to see an extension into Maplewood to Memorial Park as well if that is feasible.

So again, WHEN is this project scheduled to be completed? I can't wait!

I believe you're referring to me. Would you please clarify "keeps claiming?" oh oh

Do you think they wrote the application from scratch, or is it possible they used the numerous apps I did for this project in the past as a template, hmmmmmmmmmm?

This is the stuff legacies are made of. You are building something to leave for future generations.

Well put Tom. I'm glad they got the grant. It's a great project & it'd be wonderful to see it completed. And of course I'm very happy for Janine. She's worked so hard on both the project and the funding. If anyone gets any credit for this, it should be her.

This is so exciting. I hope Maplewood will step up to the plate and figure out a way to connect to this path. I've ridden on the current South Orange path from Third Street up to the decrepit, dysfunctional bridge, but it's a hassle to get down to the path entrance, either going via Maplewood Ave. or Valley. Being older and more trepidatious, I'm reluctant to share the road with cars, and I've long dreamed of a dedicated bike path connecting our two towns.

I've done it with my bike and a kid on a "third wheel" type bike trailer, carrying the whole rig down the stairs expecting to disturb a group of drug addicts or spray paint artists.

This will be much better.

Great news for South Orange...thanks to everyone who participated and worked on this...I know Janine Bauer was very involved from the inception of this idea...great news for us and Maplewood!

Hasn't the existing decrepit bridge been closed? Or can you use it anyway?
