Excellent! Same day as our garbage collection...

-S.

Is this officially starting next week?

It was announced at the BOT meeting. I've asked that it be posted on the Village website.

The new schedule has been posted:

Starts on the 9th. I just marked my kitchen wall calendar for each remaining date in 2015. I write the word "RECYCLING" in a vertical line along the left edge. That way it stands out and we can take care of it the evening before or early morning.

I'd love to see recycling happen once a week....whats the chance of that happening??

So the revised schedule contains the following

Electronic Drop-Offs
Four Saturdays remain in the 2014 schedule for free
electronic disposal. Villagers can drop off at the Public Works
Yard in South Orange or the Maplewood Recycling Center.
Proof of residency is required. Call DPW to ask about permissible
drop-offs. Commercial or industrial companies are excluded

Think lots of folks don't know about the change, given the number of toters I see on my block alone.

Just drove to the Village and it is fair to say that most people in So Orange have no idea that the collection day has been changed. Most blocks have at least 1/2 the toters out. Don't people read MOL,FB and get NEXTdoor notices? What more can the Village do?

The new schedule was also in The Gaslight and right at the top of the Village website. I don't think that the Village could have done anything else, except leave a notice at every residence in South Orange. It probably was to be expected that some people wouldn't see any of the notices or just forgot that the recycling had been changed to Thursdays. They'll know after today.

There are some toters out on my block.

Thanks Cramer, that was obviosuly a retorical question. The Village certainly DID do everything, but I am sure that there will be ALOT of bitching come later today, especially after the heavy rain makes all the cardboard left outside into a pulpy mess.

Mmmm. Pulpy mess.

What's NEXTdoor?

There are multiple neighborhoods in town with a list serv. I susbcribe to Lower Wyoming.

Only 3 on our half end of the street (we're in Nextdoor's Montrose Park).

For anyone using the South Orange Recycling yard on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 4 or Saturdays from 8 to noon: you no longer have to separate mixed paper and newspapers. Yesterday I was told that the village recycles only three types: corrugated cardboard with paperboard, mixed glass, aluminum and tin containers and mixed paper with newspapers.

Brown paper bags go in with the cardboard.

And please, folks, don't try to recycle dirty pizza boxes or waxed cardboard containers!

When I share our recycling and bulk item policies with out-of-towners they are truly flabbergasted
