Fun or Likable Podcasts but not political

Jun 23, 2026 at 8:48am

I listen to enough political podcasts in this crazy era and I am sure many of us do as well. So I am starting this thread under Arts & Entertainment.

I was late to the party but I highly recommend all 13 episodes of Strike Force Five. They are all funny and the 5th one will have you in total stiches. Best described by AI (hate to admit that)

"The limited series features late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver. The show originally ran for 12 episodes during the 2023 writers' strike to support their out-of-work staff, and later released a bonus 13th episode to celebrate Stephen Colbert."

Edited to add that one episode had Jon Stewart as a guest and another had David Letterman. And the commercials by Ryan Reynolds are also hysterical.

Also depending on the person being Interviewed the NY Times The Interview by either David Marchese or Lulu Garcia-Navarro, both splendid journalists/interviewers highly recommend.

Please add more. We need it. Thanks!

Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell is very interesting.

Thanks for contributing yahooyahoo. I'll check it out. I did enjoy the Tipping Point which I read eons ago.

I don't think Mo Rocca has made any episodes of his "Mobituaries" podcast in the last few years, but they're not really time sensitive. They're framed as "Death of...." something, but they're mostly humorous, informative portraits of different people and trends.

Some of my favorites were "Death of a Dummy," with Candice Bergen talking about the oddness of growing up with a type of sibling rivalry with Charlie McCarthy, "Death of a Name," about the popularity of various names and why some old-school ones come back and others don't, and "Death of the Sunshine Boy," about John Denver, where Mo and one of his guests speculate that had he lived, Denver might have a enjoyed a cultural re-appreciation in the way that Dolly Parton has.

Great suggestion chalmers. I vaguely recall him being a guest on or being interviewed on perhaps a Lovett or Leave It podcast (which I sort of fell out of liking)  a long time ago. I will check out a few. Thanks!

Good Hang with Amy Poehler

These are great suggestions! I hope they're helpful to others!

A Way with Words. It's pretty much a word nerd podcast, but it's a lot or fun. People call in with odd words or phrases, and the hosts talk about them, along with a lot of humor and fun

I never got my arms around the podcast world and may use this thread as a jumping off point to explore.  Will also use this as a jumping off point to plug my daughter, who is a guest on this funny man pod caster's show.  You know him (and he grew up in Livingston).

We Take An Accidental Journey Into the Wild World of Pet Wellness | Really? no, Really? Podcast

Very cool bub. I'll check it out. Is your daughter a vet?  Just asking based on the podcast title above.

She's a journalist.  She got a dog last year and wrote an article about dog food at the WSJ where she works.  Of all the kooky exotic subjects Jason Alexander and his pal could seize on to do a podcast about, they picked her dog food story.  Go figure.

Two of my favorites are 99% Invisible and Gastropod. 99% invisible is fascinating ... All about the built world; design, architecture, but so much more. Gastropod is about food science and food history. They aren't funny per se (though they have their moments) but they are light, while still being very interesting.

THE BUGLE

originated in UK by John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman.  Very funny and very political. When Oliver got the call to come to NY, Zaltzman carried on the program.   The "audio newspaper for a visual world," hosted by the “lapsed Jew” Zaltzman alongside a rotating militia of top-tier comics, including Hari Kondabolu, Alice Fraser, Anuvab Pal, Nish Kumar, and Andy's sister Helen. Very global in perspective. Very Trump loathing. Very funny.  I’ve been listening for years. I saw Zaltzman live In NYC a number of years ago. He’s famous for his silly Pun Runs. Doesn’t do them so much anymore.
Here’s a sample. I listen every week.
