Babette's Feast (also excellent for those interested in Protestant/Catholic cultural differences.)
Wonderful movie!
Look for Burnt with Bradley Cooper as a really crazy chef in search of stars. A little over the top but...

yes, I just read about that one. Came in under the radar I think.

Yeah I've got movies on the mind today.
I'm a big fan of movies centered around food.
Chef, which came out in the last couple of years, is pretty darn good.
My favorite is probably Big Night though. There's a restaurant in New Brunswick which has a Big Night night every year, where they show the move, and then re-create the main meal of the movie. I went last year - lots of fun.
And I just saw Julie and Julia for the first time - great movie.
Any favorites out there?
Haven't seen Chef but loved the other two. What is the name of the New Brunswick place?
Catherine Lombardi's

Yes - I've always meant to watch that. Or maybe I have. Is that the noodle house one?

"Tampopo."
Well, then I need to see it again if all I can remember is noodle house.
Thinking about Tampopo immediately has my mouth watering.
Also, the doc Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
The Hundred-Foot Journey. Fluffier than a souffle, but: Helen Mirren.
Totally under the radar: The Trip -- Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing themselves, on a restaurant tour for a newspaper.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder and Johnnie Depp versions).
Spinning Plates.
Big fan of "Julia and Julia." Sweet, funny, great food and great insight in Julia Child and her husband.
the omelet scene from Big Night. The dialog in the beginning is in Italian, but that's all the dialog for the whole scene. What he says is "Are you hungry?" It might not seem so much standing alone, but as the closing scene for the movie, it's quite powerful.

documentary The Search For General Tso
ETA: Another doc -- Fannie's Last Supper -- about Fannie Farmer and recreating a meal from her cookbook
Peter Greenaway films use food themes quite often. "The Cook, The Thief, The wife and The Lover" has some very memorable scenes.
In a somewhat revolting way, so does "Zed and Two Noughts"
I recently saw an Italian film called "Mid-August Lunch" which was quite funny and sweet and was centered on a residential kitchen in a scenic Italian town.
