Flowers for a Hanging Basket
Not necessarily from - https://www.diggers.com.au/pages/climate-map-for-seeds - but use their recommendations as a starter.
Most are a bit too tall for the basket - or even illegal here (borage is a forbidden weed here, I believe)
Have you consulted a local florist, plant nursery, or garden club for suggestions as to what would work best in your climate given plants readily available in your area?
Hi Joan, we’re fairly lucky here - mild autumn/fall and very mild winters (usually). Semi-tropical. Anything from cottage garden varieties to geraniums, roses, lavenders, ericas, cactus, camellia, magnolia, gardenias, to bush-hardy varieties, palms, poinciana, jacaranda, orchids etc. And all the smaller flora, too.
My dilemma is making the choice of which one to plant. 😁
Last year, Mtierney mentioned a pretty shrub she had planted. I found seedlings of the same variety and they grew prolifically.
look around at other people's planters to see what you like? - home, nursery, online florist or nursery catalog? nasturtiums? some kind of low or trailing jasmine? autumn clematis? ask ai??

The plant is edible, too.
So are the seeds, which taste a little mustardy.
I was wondering about Lily of the valley, in a pot then learnt they need a cold winter. It’s too humid here, and gets too warm quickly. (I know you pop hyacinths, daffodil, jonquil etc in the fridge first but I don’t think lilies of the valley would like that)
Sigh. No portulaca seedling or seeds/bulbs. Should have looked in March…

Um, no. 
The truth is the store buyers order more than actually sell; meanwhile the spores keep growing in the straw/peat mix so, within a few weeks of delivery, The new kits have exploded with more edible puffy fungi than the staff can handle. 
I have a medium sized frame (with chains to hang it) for a floral hanging basket. I have potting mix, and am selecting a fibrous liner to fill with the soil.
Any idea what plants to grow? Some flowers would be pretty, but I haven’t had luck with petunias, marigolds, pansies, ferns or daisies in the last few years. Sunflowers & poppies are too tall. Don’t need to be scented, just colourful and resilient.
