Fixin' to leave AT & T

Considering T-Mobile.  Anyone use it or have thoughts?

We switched to T-Mobile 3 months ago.  No problems, just a lower bill.

last I tried, tmobile has NO tech support.  at best they have clueless people reading a flow chart.  i've actually been able to fix things their tech support was clueless about-TWICE.

i only stick with them because they are the cheapest for my needs, if I was willing to spend more, I'd go back to verizon.  last I heard with them, you can walk in to a verizon store and get tech support on the spot.

@FormerlyJerseyjack

What does your plan look like?

I'm curious--why are you leaving ATT?

$20 per month, cheaper.  Pretty much the same service throughout the country. Also, given age of my friends, I will likely be doing less, if not any, long distance trips in future.

I already miss the trips with my friends.

As a technotwit I’m far from knowledgeable about cell phones (just got my first smart phone). I spent a bit of time looking for a carrier.  I decided on Mint Mobile because they have a 3 mos. trial plan. ($15/mo.—$45 up front) which. Inc. unltd T%T + 3 Gb data.  They use T-Mobile.  That 3 mos. plan has a lot of appeal for a wide ranging trial.

My very ltd experience has been good.  I’m surprised at how quickly I’m able to connect and conversations- very few so far- have been clear with very ;little to no lag.  T-Mobile store on Springfield Ave. not the most friendly and helpful place.  Shall we say quite mediocre.

If you don’t feel you’ll need top flight customer service just go with lowest price.

Does anyone know anything about Firstnet phone service?  The past couple of times my husband went to AT&T they tried to convince him to sign up.  He is a first responder, I am not.

I have no experience with this service.  Google search produced the following:

"FirstNet is AT&T's special service for first responders that takes advantage of a special band of the carrier's 4G LTE network to ensure that emergency personnel's service takes priority compared to those on regular AT&T plans during times of emergency."

You can be added to his plan. It’s a bit better than the regular at&t.
I switched to Visible online after years of trying all the other major carriers. The best thing I ever did. It’s around $40 monthly unlimited, if you already have a phone that’s unlocked. I got a new iPhone shipped to me for an extra $20 monthly. So my monthly bill is $60. Unlimited everything. Works great all over.

I've been using metro pcs which is now owned by t mobile and with 4 lines unlimited for 100 taxes and fees included it's been great for my family. The first month after switching I had people saying they called but got sent to VM but that stopped after the first month thankfully.

Where did you go?  We went to our local AT&T store and the woman there said only his phone can be put on the plan, I have to buy a regular plan on my own.

Edited to add, my husband’s line would have been $40, mine would have been $75

We went to a different AT&T, woman showed us more discounts I was eligible for than the first person.  Of course, the numbers don't include taxes and fees.  His $40 plan ends up being $50.48 after all is said and done.  Mine is now $61.71.  Total savings is only $12 per month.  But now we have two separate plans, two accounts, two bills.  And while he supposedly has access to a better network, he reports text messages are often delayed by five to ten minutes.  Not a big deal when I'm asking him what time he'll be home, but it is a big deal when the radio alerts don't go through and dispatch is texting him.  I had hoped for the monthly savings to be a bit more, overall I'm not sure it was really worth the switch.

I used 0.83 GB of data last month.  When home I mostly use wifi.  I might switch to a plan where the throttle the data when slow since I use so little of it anyway.  Unfortunately AT&T has the best coverage in our area.  Mint, T-mobile, etc, have spotty service out here, or else I'd be looking elsewhere for my plan.

I signed on to T- mob

I’m satisfied with the service. I get throttled when I forget to turn off my hiking tracking app after three or 5 days

Lots of dead areas out in Hunterdon county with T-mobile.  AT&T has the best coverage here, Verizon comes in second

T-mob runs on att equipment

T-Mobil’s own website shows areas in Hunterdon and Warren with spotty coverage, and admit that AT&T has better coverage

The T Mobile store on Sloan St. in South Orange has great customer service.  Our household of 3 recently switched from Verizon, as my daughter in Massachusetts has been with them for a few years.  Unlimited data!!
