Find Your Festive Feelings: Pesach, Easter, all faiths & holy days

I’m overwhelmed with my cleaning (almost impossible this year), and preparations.

My sister just can’t find her cooking vibe at all. Forget the smoked trout mousse, Her hubby will be lucky to get chicken soup and a kneidl or two. Her daughter might buy a box of matzah, no-one else in her family needs to care. Same with her brother - they’re all interested in Easter eggs hidden around the garden.

My brother can’t find the courage to shop for his few supplies but won’t let me get them and leave them at his gate.

I’m just excited I found a jar of horseradish, and we’re healthy and can make a comfy small Seder for two, seated on the sofa. Not all the trappings, but we’re able to ring each other and sing off-key, as usual.

You?

Happy Holidays (or as happy as possible) to everyone.

Stay safe.

Having a traditional Seder plate is going to be difficult this year.  Substitutions being suggested are imaginative to say the least.  Here in NJ what group Seders are being held will likely be in zoom rooms or the equivalent.  This is especially difficult for those of us who are facing a Seder meal for one.

Shall we join together, Joan? It would be fun if we can manage it (I can try to be organised by the time you’re ready) - we could FaceTime instead if you’d rather...

We’re about to go to sleep (early for me); I’m up in 7.5 hours. I wonder if we can brunch our second ’seder meal’?

As backup for horseradish, I started sprouting daikon radish sprouts for maror (they are spicy!). My father said they only had parsley when he was a kid, so we figure we're going back to old-country ways of just using what's available.

@joan_crystal - If you would like some spicy sprouts, send me a PM with your address. I could drop off a ziplock bag with them later this afternoon.

Thank you so much.  I sent you a PM with my address.

Joan,

I PM'd you. Will drop off later today. Let me know if you'd also like hard boiled eggs.

I just realized that a poster who uses the name "sprout" is touting and supplying sprouts. oh oh

Have a good Seder.

grin It's somewhat coincidental. My unruly curly hair sticking up like sprouts is why I ended up using that handle a couple decades ago. I only started growing sprouts myself about 6 months ago...

@sprout what a wonderful idea! We’ll do that next year! I’ve heard that horseradish root in Sydney is around $190 a kilo (that’s over 2 lbs, remember, and our $ is around 66 of your cents I think)last year I paid less than a third of that. (I remembered there was an alternative but couldn’t think what it is. You can also have plain boiled potato if you can’t get lettuce, I think; an old wartime substitute)

@joan_crystal, it sounds like you have local options cheese Our invitation  still stands but you’d have to let us know via PM if you want our company this year. It’s almost 7am here now.

I found my coffee pot!! And Pesachdig glass for egg checking! (And spatulas etc) feel much more organised)  smile

Truly hope your evenings are memorable - ours turned out better than expected. Chag sameach!

Joanne:  Thank you for your invite.  I did my solo Seder and it was fine.  Tomorrow I will be joining my congregation's virtual Seder via zoom.

I’ve heard rumours that the Easter Bunny is going to leave chokky eggs sprinkled in my neighbours’ gardens... cheesecheese  (one advantage of living in a village complex, everyone knows what’s going)

ohh By 5:45am, the early morning walkers were already out and about - on Easter Sunday! And the Bunny ran out of mini-eggs and pretty cups, so 8 houses are still waiting for their smaller delivery, 2 houses will miss out altogether.

Sigh.

(Apparently someone else was anonymously delivering to friends on Wednesday)

What's a chokky egg? can one put it on a Seder Plate?

A chocolate Easter egg, in Aussie slang. Sorry, thought you used similar phrasing cheese

There was no Easter Bunny visitation at our house, we were ‘passed over’ smile
