Fast Food Abominations we Love

I keep reading about the limited availability of the Chicken Big Mac. I am intrigued by the substitution of two McChicken patties for the burgers. Apparently it has been available outside the US. I may give it a try, because I apparently have a callous disregard for my well-being. 

Any other favorite fast food follies ?

I love mall food court Chinese food. I know it’s terrible but I love it.

Oh yes. Two entrees on a pile of rice for $11.99. That’s the good stuff. 

I'm a sucker for supermarket sushi. (California rolls only though. I mostly get it for the pickled ginger and the wasabi to eat with it. not a sushi fan in general)

but the store has to have an actual sushi chef making it. I do have some taste left after all.

(I haven't had Ohio made supermarket sushi yet though. That's a big step.)

yeah - I'm a fan of the one at the Livingston Mall - not sure what's happening with the food court there - it was turning into a ghost town a few months ago. 

I do grab white castle every now and then and am a fan of the Big Mac and fries.  The drive thru in West Orange is super fast.

I wandered into the Livingston Mall the other day because I was nearby and wanted to get a book at B&N.  It is shocking how ghostly and empty the mall is.  I don't know how the individual stores stay in business (a number of spots were shuttered) or how the mall owner stays in business. 

I don't eat fast food all that often. Mostly if I'm on a road trip. But I do like a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. I also like the Impossible Whopper. I don't think anyone could tell the vegetarian meat from beef in a blind taste test. It goes through the same broiler, and it gets covered with cheese, ketchup, mayo, pickles, tomato and lettuce. It may be a bit saltier than the regular Whopper, but the taste very close.

I also like the Dunkin' hash browns for a snack.  Especially with an iced coffee.

and of course, White Castle.

White Castle is in a league of its own foe me when it comes to fast food regret. For some reason it’s so great to eat, but so terrible to have eaten!

Dunkin bacon egg and cheese wrap - so yummy, and small enough to excuse.

Culver's grilled cheese with bacon - no excuse there.  They had a sign up that said they'd put bacon on anything, so....

Used to enjoy Whopper with cheese, but the last one i had was awful, probably the last ever.

Pry open a Popeye’s biscuit. Tear off chicken breast meat, or chicken tender, of approximate matching biscuit size. Insert between halves. Enjoy an abomination of a Southern chicken biscuit sandwich.

The Impossible whopper seems to have less aftertaste - I prefer it over the normal one.

I was pleasantly surprised by the brisket at chipotle.

not a regular White Castle guy by any means, but I did like their fake meat sliders. pretty good.

and I also have the occasional craving for a Big Mac. It's been months though.

and Burger King onion rings are the best fast food ring.

and I love finding the rings that have fallen to the bottom of the bag.

I do hate their onion ring sauce though. yuck.

and for the record, two whopper juniors for $5 and an order of large onion rings for $3.89 is just about the best fast food deal around.

I am a lifelong member of a select group of gastronomes who hate mayonnaise. Oh, the tales of tribulation we can tell.

mayonnaise is part of my essential food groups.

I once had a guy in an Italian grocery (that place in Florham Park on Columbia Turnpike. name is ??????) actually snort when I asked for mayo on my Italian sub. He didn't realize that I had ordered it and was within earshot though.

Maybe this should just be True Food Confessions. 

Growing up, the only spread for a roast beef sandwich (or leftover thanksgiving turkey) was butter. No mustard. Butter. To this day if I make myself a roast beef sandwich at home I smear some butter on the bread. I’m not sure where that came from. 

Add salt and pepper to taste. It’s delicious.

I believe a deli guy is supposed to make the sandwich you ask for without judgement. 

Recently returned from a 6-week road trip.  For a quick breakfast, a McDonald's Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuit is hard to beat.  However, if you're not in a rush, independent local restaurants are frequently better and always more of an adventure than fast food chains. 

Corporate fast food has replaced locally owned restaurants in some small town.  I'm not down with that.

yes. this guy failed. I almost always get mayo on an Italian sub, or any sub for that matter, regardless of where I might get it. this was the only guy who ever gave me grief.

I've been a life-long devotee of McD's breakfast sandwiches. I think the egg mcmuffin might be the greatest fast food invention ever. (though they really need to toast the muffin longer.)

But prices have gotten out of control. Haven't been in a long time.

not as much a fan of the McMuffin as the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit.  McMuffin is a little dry for my taste. 

I haven't had the Popeyes popcorn shrimp in more than 20 years, but that was really good.
