Site updates - faster load?

Mar 27, 2026 at 12:20pm

If you see any memory issues - it's probably me working on optimizing a few things - it just happened a couple minutes ago.  I normally do this is the wee hours of the night - which I'll go back to.  If you notice anything else - let me know.

I also just wrote our own Emailer script - I was using mailchimp but just wrote my own in the past few days and sent out the first test today.  If you get the emailer an notice any issue with it - let me know.

If you don't get it - you can sign up for it here:

I'm really trying to optimize a few things - I think pages are loading much faster now.

Anyone notice the difference lately?  I've been able to optimize a bunch of queries that were dragging down the page loads.

Definitely faster. I used to tap a thread link, then go make dinner, then come back and read the posts.

Hopefully my post doesn’t make Jamie think of a Vietnamese sandwich.

I’d hate for him to banh mi.

Still seeing the rotating orange circle when I log in.  However, accessing the website seems faster than previously.

Yeah! Much faster. iPhone.

I was thinking apple wanted me to upgrade to the latest iPhone…

jamie, here's that error

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 4294967296 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1476350100 bytes) in /home/worldwebs/_wildcard_.worldwebs.com/system/database/drivers/mysqli/mysqli_driver.php on line 316

where did you get that error - or what action did you do to cause it?

oh, I thought you would see my comment about the error in the russia thread.

anyway, it was after I pressed add comment on this post

https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/subforum/what-does-putin-want-and-whatbout-it/politics-plus?page=next&limit=28260#discussion-replies-3716936

it posted successfully, but then I got the error

great - a few patches were made - let's see how they worked.

The speed definitely seems faster.

Hey, jamie. Looks like there’s a glitch in first posts when creating a discussion. See mine in Education and dickf3’s and Formerlyjerseyjack’s in Virtual Cafe.

Mine lacks an Edit button, and I notice the others are missing Like and Reply buttons, so it may be something that’s related.

I see the issue now - didn't get it at first.

Fixed - appreciate the heads up!

When I click Edit on my post in Parents, Consider Underachieving, it takes me to the thread title. (The reason I’d like to edit the post is that the link doesn’t work. I had fixed it in the second post, which is now gone.)

I'm in the middle of a bunch of updates - and will circle back to your issue.

The problem we had after an update was that when a new discussion was posted - it shows the initial comments twice.   It should only show one of them.  So the one you edited may be the version that isn't showing.  If you really need the content - let me know I might be able to go through the backend database to retrieve it.

My last update has affected the page load a bit - trying to wrestle that one back a little.

try it now.

Weirdly, the Edit button on that first post now takes me to an editable version of the deleted post.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for all your continuous and dedicated work.  I’d be lost without MOL, truly.

I’ve just noticed that since yesterday, the date and time for my posts reflects the date and time here, not in NJ. That’s something new and I’m not sure if it’s intentional.

ETA:   And now I’ve noticed other posts converted to my date and time.  Neat, but confusing (to me).

yes - I updated the dates to reflect your current time zone.  Since this platform is also used with JamieSpace - it didn't make sense for people starting one in California to have all of their timestamps be in Eastern Standard Time.  I think it's working ok at the moment.  We will see.

It was working, but doesn't appear to be at present.

Edited to add: This (original) post appeared at 13:37 (my time) on Sunday 3rd of May.

Another 'good thing' I've just noticed - the ability to delete a post entirely.  A kind of 'change your mind' option, as it were.

thanks for the heads up - this is a mistake. We don't want comments disappearing.Just edit and remove the info.
