End of Summer Songs

I always get a little wistful this time of year, with school starting and the sun setting earlier. I always end up asking where the summer went. Even though I've been out of school for quite some time now, I still get that "back to school" feeling at this time. Here's a great end of summer tune, That Summer Feeling by Jonathan Richman:

Nobody on the road

Nobody on the beach

I feel it in the air

Summer's out of reach

This isn't a summer song per se, but it put me in mind of the passage of time. I saw an online ad for Tears for Fears at the Mayo Performing Arts center. I loved that band. I pulled up the ad and was amazed at how they have mellowed. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is now thirty years old. Where did it go? "Welcome to your life. There's no turning back . . . "

Two melancholy but beautiful end-of-summer songs.

"September Song" sung here by Sinatra.

"April Come She Will" by Simon and Garfunkel.

Good ones.

Easy pickings, but still irresistible:

That's the song I always think about when talking about the end of summer.

Headin' up to San Francisco
For the Labor Day weekend show,

Rent-a-cars and west bound trains.
