EMERGENCY: Help Furry Hearts Rescue with 40 Cats from a Hoarding Situation in South Orange

EMERGENCY: Help Furry Hearts Rescue with 43+ Cats from a Hoarding Situation in South Orange

Furry Hearts Rescue was called out to a home in South Orange today where they were told 13 cats and 7 kittens were in need of rescue due to an eviction.

When they arrived the situation was much more dire than was initially explained to them. Inside the home, they estimate there are at least 40 cats and kittens of various ages.

Many have upper respiratory issues, and all must be vetted. The condition inside the home is horrific with mounds of feces, and urine covering the floors.

Most all the cats in the home are friendly. These are not feral cats.

Furry Hearts Rescue is seeking help in saving these cats. If you are a Shelter or rescue who is willing to take some of these cats, or if you are willing to foster a cat please call 973-641-6893

Furry Hearts Rescue can only save those cats and kittens they can find Foster homes or other rescue/shelters for.

Furry Hearts Rescue is no position to take on 40 cats, They are not a shelter. If they cannot find placement for these cats they will be brought to Newark shelter, where they will most likely be destroyed.

You can visit www.http://furryheartsrescue.org for information about Furry Hearts Rescue.

Time is critical!

Bump, because people might not see this without another comment.

Holy crap, what a nightmare! I wish I could foster.  I will post on my FB page.

Furry Hearts has been given until Friday to get what cats they can out of the house.

...that's really just 2 days.

I've taken in 3 very very sick 6 month old kittens. (AND I'M A DOG PERSON)!

The cats are so skinny, but sweet.

This is so heartbreaking. In my dreams I have a lovely heated barn where I can foster lots of kitties. In reality, I don't even have a spare room.

Bump.

Same.  Bump again.

When you say the cats need to be vetted , what does that mean that who ever adopts or fosters a cat will need to provide immediate veterinary care.   Not trying to be difficult - just trying to understand and clarify something that looks a little daunting.

Furry Hearst can answer for themselves, but it is my understanding that they have a vet that they work with. It would likely be the fosterers responsibility just to get the cat(s) there.

If anyone can help, please do!  These are pets--very sweet cats--who have had a terrible experience.

I'm fostering one now but there are many who need a home, even a temporary one.  Anything you can do--donation of money or supplies, fostering, and best of all--adoption--will help save these babies.

Update, please? I wish I could foster but not possible for me. Is other help still needed? Please PM me if you need some assistance. If I am able, I will help!

ETA: I will also check with Furry Hearts rescue. I'm looking for the shortcut to an answer about how the kitties are faring. cheese

Yes, please check with Furry Hearts.  Supplies are really needed from what I understand.

I'm keeping count  so last count was 46 but I think we have a few more to add.

I tried to get a straight answer about the prospects of the use of the old JAC shelter last night at the candidates debate, but just got the reverse- step- over- toe-hold  comments like "Its a process" (One that has been going on for 7 months).

As vaccinations were done by a vet at the space last winter,  I asked for use for temp housing of these animals. A long shot I agree but worth a try.

When I discussed it with the The BOT liaison to the health department, Deborah Davis Ford she thanked me for sharing as if we were in an AA meeting. Ah well she is running for office again, and this scenario is eerily reminiscent of the hoarding house on Academy St. They just exist for years with animals dying inside.

Interestingly, the neighbor of this hoarding house was at the debate last night chatting pleasantly with Sheena Collum. Do these civic minded citizens report these conditions? I know they did on Academy St. but nothing was done till the woman died. In this case it took a foreclosure.

If you cannot adopt or foster, but want to help, you may make a donation thru Paypal. Go to www.furryheartsrescue.org

On the web page you will see a link to FHR Paypal.

SUPPLIES...FHR really needs those! Litter boxes, litter, cat food, kitten food, and bedding!!! Supplies can be dropped off at Puppy Love on Springfield Ave in Maplewood, next to Burger King.

You can also pick something from the wish list (also on the webpage) and surprise the kitties! All Wish list items can be sent to Puppy Love at 1835 Springfield Ave, Maplewood, NJ 07040

I'm starting to post the adoptable cats on FHR facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/FurryHeartsRescue

Today is Friday--it's NAME A KITTY DAY on FHR facebook page. We have two kitties to name!

This is Loralia, a 6-month-old grey kitten with white chest. She was rescued from a home with 46 cats. Most all the cats have severe URIs, and like Loralia, need vet care. Loralia will be available for adoption in a few weeks at which point she will be spayed and UTD on all her shots. If you would like to adopt Loralia and give her the loving home she deserves, or if you are willing to foster a kitten like Loralia please send an application request to onfo@furryheartsteacue.org

Any cats that still need fostering?  especially kittens?

Yes--there are cats and kittens that need fostering. If you are interested in helping by fostering one of these kitties please email info@furryheartsrescue.org and tell them you are interested in fostering a cat or kitten.

FURRY HEARTS RESCUE is still seeking foster homes, or adopters for some of the 43+ cats taken from the home.

email info@furryheartsrescue.org with the subject title "can foster from hoarding house" and someone will contact you.

Many of the cats are young, and friendly.

Furry Hearts Rescue is desperate for foster homes for their cats, kittens and dogs. Totally overloaded this summer--they have run out of space and cannot continue to rescue until the cats and dogs in their care are placed.

When you foster, you help save a life. It's like being a superhero! Except, using only your human powers you provide a safe and loving environment for a needy cat or dog until their forever home is found. NO SUPER POWERS NEEDED.

Help your local rescue help local cats and dogs. Interested? Want to know more?

Email info@furryheartsrescue.org and title your email "I CAN FOSTER". Someone will reach out to you ASAP. ---that will probably be me!

My husband will kill me if I foster, but can furry hearts use crates? Cleaning out my mom's house, I saved several crates with y'all in mind.

yes--that would be terrific Carolanne. I messaged you with my address.

Many of the hoarder-home cats are ready for adoption! You can email info@furryheartsrescue.org and request an application.

SKINNY PETE was so thin and sick when he was found we really didn't think he would make it. But now he's gained a little weight, and he's purring and head-butting his way into our hearts. FHR would love to see Pete to go a home where he will always be safe, there will always be food, and he will know love and loyalty. If you would like to meet Skinny Pete you can send an email to info@furryheartsrescue.org and ask for an adoption application and make an appointment to meet him.

Oh, Skinny Pete has a beautiful little face. oh oh

Hi @jeanneh

I don't have these new shots for Petfinder, so send with names and bios and I'll get them right up. Also would love to get a shot of Pete without the bars if possible. I love Mr. Friendly, so if I get a nice shot I think he will make some hearts melt. I think some MOLers like those handsome redheads! By the way beautiful pictures!

will do!

Our group has a table today at the Pride Day event in Maplewood so we would be happy to have you bring a couple of cats and a sign up sheet for foster or adoption! We have a couple of our own kittens but even if you bring just a cat or two it would be a lovely way for people to see the wonderful work you are doing. And we will be selling rainbow stickers with a cat at the end of the rainbow to help our homeless cats! We love you Furry Hearts!
