I do this commute once or twice a month. Best time at that time ever with all of the cards in my favor 1 hour 50 mins. Worst time 4.5 hours. Accidents, traffic construction. I'd say 2.5 to 3 hours is average at that time

On a Friday night, at the height of summer, and with all the construction? I would say you'd be lucky to make it that quickly.
I too can make it to AC on a Tuesday morning in November in under two hours. I made it to Cape May Point last Labor Day weekend in 2 hours 30 minutes--left at 6am on Friday.

Yes. Left union at 5:oopm on a friday, in the height of traffic/construction/ summer. 1 hour 50 minutes. As I stated above it typically takes me 2.5-3 hours with the worst ever being 4.5. Again i'd allow 3 hours.
Sometimes everything falls into place. I drive approx 300 miles a day for work I've seen it all.
We thought it would be terrible too but have done this a number of times and it isn't that bad. Usually takes us 1 3/4 hours and we've sailed through in that time on a Friday evening or it's taken closer to 2 1/2 but it's not as terrible as you'd expect. Nothing like trying to drive out to LOng island on a Friday evening
Well, I'll be! (But I'd love to know how long it took anyway... )
Google Map it with traffic turned on Thursday at 5 PM and then range around that estimate 30 minutes on either side (most likely on the +30 side). I've found the Google Maps real-time estimates to be extremely accurate. Thursday traffic conditions should somewhat approximate Friday's during the summer and you'll capture construction too.
It helps that shore houses have a Saturday turnover. And those new lanes on the GSP that were added go almost Toms River ( or so) now and really help the busiest parts
Its all about the accidents (or not). If no accidents, 2 1/2 hours, max.
Tune into 101.5.
If they report accidents, take turnpike to Heightstown/Allentown and take 539 to the Parkway entrance in Tuckerton.
Followup:
I left on Friday at about 5:45 and drove to Galloway with minimal delays. In some places, the prevailing speed was closing in on 80 mph.
Came back on Sunday leaving Manahawkin about about 6:30 with a 1/2 hour dinner break at Tom's River. Again, minimal delays on the return.

What can I expect for travel time if heading to Atlantic City on Friday at about 5. I know it is a bad time, but I don't necessarily have much flexibility.
