Dr. Schlachter is closing his practice!

Dr. Howard Schlachter is closing his practice, rather abruptly in about 3 weeks. I just received a letter in the mail and am so sad as I loved him as my sons pediatrician.

If you are a family with Dr. S - who will you go to now?!?! Looking for a pediatrician who is of the same mindset. TIA!

tdevine - my family also has been using Rusty Schlachter for years and we are searching for a pediatriciasn with a similar approach! Did you ever find anyone in the area???

Since we used different pediatricians, how are we to know the mind-set of your doc? (Sorry if that came off snarky.)

I picked Kids Docs on 1st St in SO based on the nurses at St. Barnabas when my daughter arrived a month early and we had only done some preliminary screening off the insurance list. They all said they would use him (Dr. Tony Albanese) if they lived closer. At the time, we lived in Kearny and still came to him in South Orange. My SIL who had triplets with multiple physical problems and eventual autism diagnoses DID NOT like his easy-going attitude and switched. My son prefers him; daughter saw Dr. Lisa Vecchio until she was 20. Office staff is pretty good, there's a big, free parking lot and appointments fairly easy to obtain; doctors do call-backs throughout the day if time, otherwise later in afternoon.

His office is closed until the 6th, and closes permanently on the 15th. I need to get my son's paperwork for the next school year done. If he is willing to do it from FL and mail it up I have no issue, but this is kind of short notice. I am just expecting a headache as his staff seems to dislike doing anything that involves human interaction.

I will miss watching the one woman argue with the radio though. That was always a hoot even if her personal politics were on the ugly side
