Does anyone know where Sun Yung (sp?), formerly Choon, who used to work at Anthony Garubo is working now?

After moving to WO from SO a decade ago, I slowly stopped going to SO/M for all our usual needs, but lately have not only returend to Gleasons - worth the trip! - but I'd like to go back to using Sun Yung since no one can do my brows like she did and my eyes are failing me when I try myself.

I was sad to just call Garubo and hear that she is no longer working there. Does anyone have a lead on where she might be working?

FWIW, her name was Choon for many years and after she obtained her US citizenship, she took the opportunity to change her name legally. I think she spelled it Sun Yung, but I could be remembering wrong - eyesight isn't the only thing getting old.

Thanks for any help!

I love Sun Yung!  She hasn't worked at Garubo for awhile and unfortunately I'm not sure where she went.  If you need an awesome eyebrow waxer though, I love Grazielle at Garubo.  Believe it or not, I've gotten compliments on my eyebrow shape!

Funny this place just reached out to me last week: I see Sun Yung mentioned in a review of this place: http://www.amoysalonspa.com/ (on the righthandside)

Yes, she is at Amoy Salon.  Across from the Staples/Walgreens shopping center.   Actually very convenient, easy to get there, plenty of parking and Sun Yung is there...win, win!

This is huge info. I imagine she had it in her contract to not be able to tell clients where she was going.  Garubo is a well established class-act salon, it's had its moments good and bad but so far has survived and for the most part, does the right thing

It is odd, a doctor changes a practice and you can figure out where they went.  But a beautician, it's like a state secret!  The guy who cut my hair for years left, and no one would say a thing. Such a strange practice in this day and age.  I eventually found him via Facebook.

Seems to me there's a real need for a LinkedIn for beauty professionals so their clients can find them!

Thank you so much!!! (At least locally, this board usually knows where people have gone!)

And, btw, if anyone out there who cares doesn't already know where Ampy - also, formerly of Garubo - went, she has opened her own beautiful brand new salon in the new building on Valley at 3rd St.  (Artistry Salon by Ampy). Ursula is also there. Just paying back info I know in appreciation for finding Sun Yung!

I used to go to a barber shop on 72nd Street when i lived in the city. It was nothing fancy, a few older guys in blue safety smocks kind of place. One of the barbers was pretty good and one day, on the other side of the street, there was a sign saying that he had opened his own barber shop, one floor up. I figured I'd go and help him get his new venture off the ground.

When I got there, he was staring out the window at the shop where he previously worked, muttering under his breath about his old place and who was going in there. This continued through the haircut and after I got out of the chair, paid and nearly sprinted out.

I never went to either place again.

A lot of high end salons have non-compete contracts that are not that different from hi-tech companies, so people in that business often have to wait a while before they can start somewhere else.   I really don't know if this is the case with Anthony Garubo.  There has been a lot of discussion as to the spread of non-compete clauses to places where they were really never meant to be and salons feel to me like a case in point.

she is at amoy but makes her own appts so when you call ask for her number.
