Do you love your coffee grinder?

If so, please recommend.

Thank you.

DeLonghi, two cup size.

I bought it at a church sale, 7 years ago, for $10.00.  It is just now beginning to malfunction. I use it about 8 times per week. I will replace it.

I also wanted a coffee bean roaster but too expensive for the task. Maybe if I win the lottery.

I used to grind my beans manually, then gradually developed a frozen shoulder, so it became hard work. I bought a small electric one that can also do nuts (different attachment) but the noise was too much, and anyway it was lost in a house move. Now I love James and Gaye  the young people at the roasters who grind my weekly bean selection for me cheese

We have a Capresso burr grinder.  We love it.  We went through all of the stages -- blade grinder, having them grind it, and finally ended with the burr grinder.  The coffee tastes incredibly smooth.  Apparently, the blade grinder chops the beans, and the burr grinder crushes the beans, and crushing makes for a smoother cup of coffee.  It has a hopper on top to hold the beans and a timer that, with a little experimentation, you can set to give you the correct amount of grinds for your pot of coffee.  Highly recommended.

P.S.  All of our guests comment about how good our coffee is!

I have a Capresso burr grinder as well, and bought two more for my daughter's and son's homes! My only negative is, with some beans, there's a LOT of static electricity so the ground coffee tends to be messy. It seems to happen more to dark roasts, and I prefer medium roast anyway, so it's not usually a problem. You'll need to experiment some I guess. I bought mine at Kitchen A La Mode in South Orange, Ben recommended that one.

Third for the capresso.  Got it from Ben at KALM.  Have used it twice a day for several years.

Someone had commented about roasting, but then changed their mind.  But roasting your own coffee is easy and inexpensive and the coffee is soooooo good!

My coffee roaster cost $25 on ebay.

I hear burr grinders are better than blades, but I don't know. I like my grinder. It's a Cuisinart. There is a protruding button on top that I have to hold down. I place a heavy skillet on the button and walk away and get the water or filter. Then I come back and remove the skillet.

@max_weisenfeld, you really roast beans in a corn popper?

Every week.  Read the Sweet Maria's link I posted.  Bonus is how good it makes the house smell.

As for grinders, I have used both burr and blade.  Blade is better than pre-ground, by a mile.  Try a blade first if you are not sure and just want to try, because they are cheap and can be re-purposed as a spice mill.  But a burr grinder grinds significantly more evenly.  Blades leave you with everything from dust to chunks, burr it is all the same, and the same every time.

Where do you buy the raw coffee beans?

I use a blade grinder for coffee but I'm afraid to try it for whole nutmeg. I love the spice and bought the whole nuts but practically shaved off my fingers trying to grate it. It looks too big for the coffee grinder so there it sits taunting me.

I use a microplane for nutmeg, and yes, my fingers are at risk, and you waste about 1/3 of the nut.  Nutmeg is worth the risk.  But I agree, I wouldn't put it in a blade grinder.

I have blade proof gloves to protect my hands. I don't recall where I got them but well worth the cost of around $10.00

Maybe Fishy has something similar.

Decided to hunt for nutmeg graters and I was surprised at the variety.  Checked out the microplane and the matching glove and decided to hunt for something electric or at least somewhat mechanical. I use nutmeg everyday in and over my soy protein shake. I float a bit over my coffee. I know it may sound sacrilegious to do such a thing but I'm a vegan who wants to be guaranteed some protein with my caffeine jolt.

Here's a link to the nutmeg grater and grinders.

After all, Halloween is right around the corner.

--- so I ordered me a roaster and $20.00 of raw bean samples.
