Not sure about the Pine Siskins - but I have noticed a new bird in my yard recently which looks a bit like a sparrow but smaller.

Your photo looks so similar, but it’s not a nuthatch (which is also an adorable bird). My picture is a bit blurry. It’s smaller than a nuthatch with a shorter beak, like a small sparrow.
They say that the red-breasted variety is much smaller then a white breasted nuthatch - 4.3 inches. Hard to tell the beak shape from your pic.

I saw him (or her) at my feeder and hanging on my house today. He let me get unusually close, like a foot or two away. He’s small and adorable. Also, do we get Pine Siskins here (I’m new to NJ)? We had a ton of them a few weeks ago, but not sure if I am identifying the right bird.
