Do you have rubbish to dispose and can't figure out where?

So I do. I have 2 garbage containers full of wood pieces from moldings and other projects and I can't figure out how to dispose of them. I am considering a bagster. And perhaps I can get rid of this stuff and aid someone who is in a similar predicament. If you have a few items that you can't dispose off, would you be interested in bringing them over and throwing them into a bagster at my home for a small nominal fee (i.e. $25-$50)? This way I can justify getting the bagster and you also get rid of those pesky items in the garage/backyard that have been annoying you for ages. If so, send me a PM and let me know so that I can plan the bagster, pick up etc.

I'm interested.  We have a small amount of construction material to dispose of.  I'm happy to compensate you for a portion of it.

Great. We are in a similar boat. Can you tell me roughly how much? I "store" mine in the large garbage containers. Any guesses as to how many of those your materials would be? Just trying to get a good idea of how much we can fit in the bagster.

Call me crazy, but what if we all just pooled our money together and gave it to our municipalities and then on the occasions when we needed the service, they would just come and get it as managed by the municipality?
One can dream!!!

They call that system taxation and people scream when you ask to increase it.  Just sayin'...

Often, you can tip your regular collector to take extra trash.

Unfortunately that would require I be  home when they do the pick up, no?

if it's possible to get it into a garbage bag you can probably get rid of it in your regular trash pickup.  I have filled contractor cleanup bags with construction debris and both Waste Management and South Orange Disposal have taken them.
I don't fill them too full and I cut wood pieces into about 2 foot chunks so the bags are not too hard to handle and they don't tear open.  And I make a point of only putting out a couple at a time. It takes a few weeks sometimes but then it's gone.
I also pull out any nails sticking out of the wood.
It takez some time but it saves a lot of dough. The bagster will part you with 2 or 3 portraits of Benjamin Franklin.
Also your waste disposal team might appreciate the occasional subsidized lunch.  They're working hard but are usually happy to help with removing stuff like that.

Indeed, that is why I was trying to find others in my position so that instead of spending the $200 the bagster usually costs, we can split it among a few and make it much easier to justify the expense since the amount of stuff is not that large. I have a couple of concrete pieces, that someone dumped on our yard (don't ask) that we just digged out and I don't think I can sneak those in the garbage bags. And the pieces of wood have way too many rusted nails to take them all out and I would not want anyone getting hurt on those. A tetanus shot would definitely be needed if you hurt yourself with one of those!

I place the contractor bag of scraps next to the garbage can the night before pick up with a $5 bill taped to it. Works every time.

We'll be finishing our garage cleanup this weekend--I know we have a bunch of crap that just needs to go. I'll post again if we have enough for a partial Bagster!

We've tried putting it in plastic bags, they won't take it.  I hadn't thought to bribe them with money.

I have put out the bags and they ripped them open and left them. Maybe the money would work.

I have drywall scraps...probably three bags full.

Also...municipalities that turn garbage collection over to the oligarchy of quasi mafia contolled waste management systems increase the likelihood of short dumping. Not being able to thrown out small amounts of construction debris and have one ton minimum at transfer stations are ridiculous. The transfer station should be free for residents or free up to one ton. It is no wonder you see contractor bags in lots on the side of the road. Poor public policy.

Honestly, with the regularity that these types of threads pop up - it should be on the list of issues to address of those running for office.  We spent a small fortune last year getting rid of junk and I'm very happy to now live in a place where I can just fill out a form online and my "bulk" garbage is picked up without any drama.

I don't know how pm's work with the new system -- but I'm happy to chip in towards a bagster day -- you say when and where.

I'd like to join, please.

I think joining forces to do this is a fabulous idea. Go, MOL!

So I am down for the bagster. The only problem is hosting. Per the bagster website the bag needs to placed away from wires. Sadly there are wires right in front of my driveway and front lawn which would make the location not viable for them to pick it up.

"All Bagster Bags Must Be: • Placed on your property. • Placed at least 5 ft. away from any structure or vehicle. • Be clear of any overhead wires, trees, or structures. Your Bagster bag must be at least 5 ft. from any structures, fences, trees, vehicles, or other objects that may obstruct collection or be damaged during collection. Your Bagster bag must not be placed under any wires, trees, or overhead structures that may obstruct collection or be damaged during collection. The Bagster truck needs at least 18 feet of vertical clearance to operate. Waste Management will pick up your Bagster bag with a large truck mounted with an overhead crane that can reach up to 16 feet (two Bagster bag lengths) from the edge of the street, alley, or driveway. The center of your Bagster bag must be placed on your yard or driveway no further than 16 feet (two Bagster bag lengths) from the edge of the street, alley, or driveway."

Does anyone have a location that meets these requirements? Not sure if the wires from the street lamps outside my house are above 18 feet. Does anyone know the typical height of street lamps in Maplewood?

We've got a perfect spot for a Bagster and we've had one picked up before. I think we also have a freaking Bagster in the depths of our basement. This is good motivation. I will talk to my husband tonight. Who wants in? Hopefully there will be enough room for everything!

I'm in if there is room after the above posters... Have an old crib and some tiles and bits of concrete to dispose of...

We are still interested and would like to go in on the bagster.  Please let me know the details.

Oh crap did I inadvertently designate myself as the coordinator of this?

Would people be ready to bring their stuff over this weekend and I'll arrange to have the truck come next week?  I'm suddenly nervous there isn't going to be enough room, but those things do hold a lot.......not sure what a fair way to divvy up the cost is, either.  Evenly split between everyone?

We can bring our stuff over this weekend and share half the cost.

I can bring my items this weekend also, so we can share the cost as well. I've been thinking of posting something like this myself, but we don't have the clearance for the bagster either, so never did. It's a great idea if you only have a few things to get rid of, and keep missing the monthly bulk pick up days offered ( every time!)

Ok, sorry all--just talked to my husband about this and apparently the stuff we need to get rid of can be taken in a bulk pickup and he's already gotten rid of the rest. Whoops!

So I'll back out--hopefully someone else has a spot the Bagster can go??

I am in. Trying to determine the height of the power lines in front of my driveway. If they are over 18 ft I will definitely host. I will keep you posted.
