texting uses mobile phone numbers - not addresses. Do you have an Iphone?
It is possible to send a v-text through your email provider. You still need to enter the recipients phone number though. An MIS person set it up for me so I don't know what else is required in your contact file for the text message to go through.
The Send button in Messages is a little blue arrow on the right of the box where you type the message, in case no one has answered that question yet.

This is effectively an email that is sent to
Open text app. Go to blue box at top, left. Window for "new message" appears. Type in address (to.Type content. Use blue arrow to send.
Late last night I prepared a reply but somehow I seem to have lost it.
No I don’t have an iPhone; I use an iPad, with no cellular capcity(it doesn’t even have a slot for a Sim card). I have NO cell devices.
All this has me thoroughly confused. On several occasions I have received text msgs at my “Messages” app when I was expecting those to my email (at yahoo). How can that happen when I don’t even have an unused phone—I have NO cellular capacity.
My current situation is so unimportant that I’m just going to forget abou the whole tthing.
@ridski, thanks. I saw the arrow and hit it. Since I was addressing their email it couldn’t send my msg. Of course the app didn’t signal that it couldn’t transmit nor why.
Thanks everyone,
Apollo T
can you send a text message through wifi? or do you need a cell connection?
answer: apparently in Apple world you can send texts through WiFi if you turn on WiFi calling.
Here's how to turn it on for your ipad.
Note: If you enable Wi-Fi Calling, emergency calls may be made over Wi-Fi, and your device’s location information may be used for emergency calls to aid response efforts, regardless of whether you enable Location Services. Some carriers may use the address you registered with the carrier when signing up for Wi-Fi Calling as your location.
Note: If you make a call from another device by relaying it through your iPhone with Dual SIM, the call is made using your default voice line.

It's not a text message, it's an Apple iMessage. It's not sent by Yahoo! or a mobile phone provider. It's sent by Apple. Your Apple ID is what people are using for addressing. Your Yahoo! email is the identifier your Apple ID is using.
When people are making iPhone to iPhone communications Apple intervenes and sends it as an iMessage instead of a text.
With your ipad, you probably won't be able to send texts to those without iphones.

I have never initiated a text conversation— email tons of times but not text. I typed address and msg, but I can’t find a send button. I’m using Apple ‘messages’ app with Yahoo mail service. How do I send this?
