Contractor to Replace Stoop: Recommendations?

My brick stoop is falling apart.  Has anyone replaced one of these recently and, if so, would you recommend the contractor you used?

Avellino Masonry. We had good dealings with them.

Avellino - definitely!

Bravo Masonry did a few jobs for us and we were happy with their performance and the final work that they did.

eta: they redid our front walkway, did a retaining wall around a bed in our front yard and rebuilt our front stairs.

Johnny’s Masonry rebuilt our stoop about two years ago.  We are experiencing issues with it now and are not able to locate him or his company.  I’ve posted a pic so you can see what’s happening.  I need someone who can diagnose what’s happening, so I’m following your post.  Sometimes it’s good to know about the things that can go wrong. I have no clue what’s causing the uneven moisture stains on the stone.

Avellino did a nice job on our stoop some years ago (a compete demo and redo). Also did the sidewalk and poured a new garage floor at the same time. Also recommended a guy to make the new stoop railings. All good.

Definitely worth getting a quote from.

Carmine’s very happy with his work

I don’t recommend Avellino.

Within 2 years limestone was hairline cracking and cement falling out from between bricks.

It is now 7 years and some of the limestone steps are pitting and ‘melting’ away, cement has continued to come out from between bricks and weeds grow in exposed areas, all limestone steps are broken in multiple areas. I did call after 2 years and was told limestone issues were due to bad winters and they refused to fix it.

Stairs need to be redone, they are becoming a safety issue

Carmine's...  Very reasonable and did a great job.
