I've been working with AIA contracts for 20 years and seen comments on them from probably over a hundred lawyers, and I can tell there is zero rhyme, reason or pattern to the various things they have objected to in order to justify their fee. The AIA contracts have been around for decades, and though written by ineffectual misfits who have never built a damn thing in their lives, they are basically fair. (I can't speak for the rider). That said, there are two basic types of AIA contracts: cost + fee (with or without a guaranteed max) and stipulated sum. Each carries it's own risk and upside. You need to understand the difference and choose the right structure for you.
Hi June,
I've dealt with them before however - with this particular client, I would like to have an attorney review it.
Thanks! :
