Columbia Baseball takes first loss - record still a phenomenal 5 and 1!

CHS Baseball is 4-0, with wins against Verona, Montclair-Kimberly Academy, Cedar Grove, and Glen Ridge.

Go Cougars!

Taking on Roxbury, ranked No. 14 in the state by nj.com, at 4 today at Underhill, weather permitting.

(If only they weren't the only team I root for that will be playing watchable baseball this season.)

Go Cougars. All wins are important but if they pull off a Roxbury win how sweet that will be based on the old history I have heard tell about the "tensions" between the teams and the fans. And that Roxbury is of course likely still a stronger team than many of the others they will play.

Make that 5 and 0! 3-2 win over Roxbury!

+1!

Rough outing yesterday. A couple of untimely errors coupled with cold bats resulted in a 6-0 loss to Livingston. Can't win em all in baseball...

Next game on Friday.

Nice start.

Great pitching.

Wish they played a tougher schedule. No SHP for the first time in memory, no?

The Cougars are 9 and 1 heading into the Dad's Club Invitational this weekend at Roselle Park, where they will take on the hosts at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing a full varsity game, instead of just sneaking peeks during breaks in JV action.

10 and 1 after Roselle Park.  Going for 11 tonight on the turf at West Orange HS.

Go Cougars! And @jimmurphy I assume you can't (in this new world forum) update the thread title otherwise you would have, yes?

@jimmurphy, it was a pleasure watching your son pitch (and hit) on Saturday. I also enjoyed meeting his mother, who, along with the other parents in the bleachers, added to the fun.

That's a roger Wendy.

Hey Dave, That was my son's very talented lefty teammate pitching, as my guy plays CF.  He did lead the game off with a triple though!  Mom was suitably proud.  ;-)    I was in DC watching his older bro pitch.

I look forward to meeting you, perhaps at the night game on Cameron Field at 7pm on April 28th!

Whoops, right: No. 7, who seemed to be up to bat every inning. And since I messed it up, props to Jesse Evans, the pitcher.

(The Cameron game was a highlight of our family's first high school season last year, and I was excited to see it scheduled on one of my nights off again this season. Then they went and moved it to a work night, obviously without asking me. Ah, well. I'll do my best to resist praying for a rainout.)

11 and 1 after beating West Orange last night!  Verona today.

Go Cougars! This is so good to hear! Mets and Cougars trending together - coincidence? - Perhaps not. ;-)

There are Murphys on both teams...  Although mine is hitting much better.  ;-)

Time to put the big one in the 2 hole again.

The Cougars are accomplishing it with a lower payroll.

Not by much if you know the Wilpons' mind-set.

Perhaps. And put Lagaras where? Murphy could be adjusting to Wright's absence more than most or he too is another slow starter like Granderson. Can't recall from last year.

Great start but soft schedule. I realize Columbia is in a lower division but it would great to see them playing SHP, Millburn, Nutley, and other strong teams in the immediate area.

You'll get your wish in the GNT. Till then, lets enjoy the season, the team chemistry being developed, and the effort being put forth by the team.

I'm confused. Are we still talking about the Mets?

13 and 1 after wins against Cedar Grove and Dickinson HS of Jersey City.

Games Monday and Tuesday with Tuesday night's being on Cameron Field in South Orange at 6:30. Burgers, Dogs and other refreshments will be available. Come on out and support the Cougars!

Also, bagged the 4 seed for the GNT.  Home game against West Orange on Saturday at Underhill.
